Since he was a child, Thomas Alba Edison began carrying out his first chemical experiments in the basement of his house. In addition, he had to practice multiple occupations before he could register his first patent.
Inventor Thomas Edison's boyhood is chronicled and shows him as a lad whose early inventions and scientific experiments usually end up with disastrous results. As a consequence, the townsfolk all think Tom is crazy, and creates a strained relationship between Tom and his father.
