George Formby and Phyllis Calvert got along quite well during filming. Usually, there was hostility between Formby and his leading ladies.
UK audiences (in particular) on the film's original release were wildly enthusiastic on seeing the dream sequence of George punching Hitler, for obvious reasons.
The film's première took place at the Empire in London's Leicester Square on Friday 12 July 1940. Under two months later the Nazis would commence their bombing Blitz on the capital and the country as a whole.
