The writing starts with the signs of a happy wedding from a cheerful woman. The childhood past has doomed Nancy's life and countless men that otherwise had bright futures. The "Locket" was the one obstacle Nancy could not forget. She never knew happiness as a child and could not mature. Just like the locket she wanted she also wanted a man for a possession (symbol). The different men she could never have as she was not ever whole after her childhood. Two factors in this and other (Robert Mitchum) films are always cast as either average or hard luck personalities. The unsurpassed cinematography of (Nicholas Musaraca) was very prevalent in (Mitchum) movies. The dark Italian restaurant and the art studio for example. The stronger the contrast between good/evil that shows the high aspirations of hope in life and the ultimate level of darkness we can fall all make for great "Film Noir".
