- Jean Kerenor: [as he and Metard/Corlay are stopped by a guard from entering a pub] One uncovers. It's good form for the content.
- [German officers as well as town folk are seated inside]
- Mme. Henriette Corlay: [to Metard, who is impersonating her son] There are women, monsieur, who give their love but once. I think Ann's one of them. When you go...
- Bertrand Corlay: [Capt. Metard playing Bertrand Corlay] It's not I she loves... it's your son.
- Mme. Henriette Corlay: I don't think you believe that. Monsieur, don't make her suffer any more.
- Col. von Steffan: [first discernable lines in English]
- [startled as Corlay - disguised as an Arab chauffeur - abruptly stops the car]
- Col. von Steffan: What's wrong?
- Bertrand Corlay: [smugly turns around to face the colonel] Nothing's wrong... Colonel von Steffan. You are doing a fine job for Germany. A revolt of the desert tribes' men will serve your country very well. But you see colonel, I have a country too; and I have a job to do!
- [quickly shoots von Steffan before he can draw his gun, then steals his briefcase after he is obviously dead]
- Bertrand Corlay: You know, there is something about the beard that attracts every insect in the desert. They meet. They fall in love. They raise families... whole future generations.
