According to contemporary articles in The Hollywood Reporter, producer/director Wesley Ruggles unsuccessfully sought Norma Shearer, Helen Hayes, Katharine Cornell and Valerie Hobson for the lead in this picture.
According to an article in the August 13, 1941 edition of The Hollywood Reporter, additional scenes with Fritz Feld, who plays the hotel clerk, were shot after principle photography on the film had been completed.
