The name of the teacher's restaurant is written horizontally, from right to left. Japanese is traditionally written vertically, from top to bottom, then right to left. The first standard for writing the characters horizontally was called "migi yokogaki" (right horizontal writing), which was widely used before WWII, after which it was replaced by "hidari yokogaki" (left horizontal writing), the current standard which is written left to right.
