THE STORY & GENRE -- Jekyll & Hyde story is not scientific here but rather psychological, as in bipolar, with a "ghostly" personality appearance at the end. I'm willing to say genre and not pseudo-genre. Wiene, the expressionist pioneer, directs.
THE VERDICT -- A few moments of tension but mostly very talky. I thought overacted in the silent-era vein but Variety review 1932 thought well-done and unfortunate to have been released in the USA alongside Mamoulian's DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE (1931).
FREE ONLINE -- Not at this time. You may have to download. As for duration, I found 82 minutes in fair condition, which is a fast run of the 86-minute official release. There was no 104-minute release reported (so not sure why this is claimed at IMDB), only 98-minute and 91-minute "test versions" which appear to have been withdrawn before distribution.
