Alice Faye was initially able to convince the studio that the then novice Tyrone Power Jr. should be her leading man. Shortly after production began, however, they changed their mind and replaced him with Michael Whalen, who was then a bigger name. But Power's name still appeared on early printings of publicity stills for the movie. Ironically Faye's subsequent three films with Power proved the most successful of her career.
Said to be loosely based on John Barrymore's much publicized affair with Elaine Barrie, a college student 34 years his junior who would become his fourth (and last) wife.
