The statue of the athlete's foot has a corn cushioning pad on the little toe. Dr. Scholl's, a famous foot care company, had begun operations in 1906 at Chicago. The company encouraged patrons to care for their feet, especially as footwear was evolving from sturdy boots toward more stylish (but often painful) options.
