Edith Erastoff was pregnant with daughter Guje Lagerwall while making this movie. Guje was born shortly after the film's New Year's Day premiere.
Based on the story of Eyvindur of the Mountains (1714-1783), an outlaw in Iceland who fled into the mountains with his wife around 1760 and remained there for twenty years.
Prologue: "The setting is Iceland in the mid-18th century. As a result of the severity of the prevailing laws, the mountains were a refuge to many an outlaw. The lives of the two leading characters-- Halla and Kári--are based on historical events."
Filmed in the spring and summer of 1917 in northern Sweden.
