Exclusive: Josh Brener (Saturday Night) has been tapped to star opposite Harvey Guillén in That Friend, the indie comedy marking the feature debut of writer-directors Will Sterling and Alex Wall.
He comes to the project after starring alongside Guillén in The Internship, 20th Century Fox’s 2013 comedy toplined by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
Slated for production in December, That Friend centers on Paul (Guillén), that one friend we all have whose invitation for “one drink” seems harmless but the next thing you know, you’re drunk on a Tuesday, swaying in your kitchen eating dry top ramen out of the bag and wishing you hadn’t just sent that text. Brener’s character Henry is just trying to have a romantic weekend in Palm Springs with his new girlfriend Penny until Paul crashes their trip. And when Paul’s pack of drug-laced cigarettes disappear into the hands of a stranger,...

“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” stars Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon appeared at Comic-Con to preview the teen turtles’ latest adventure — this time a 12-episode series for Paramount+.
The quartet (who reprise their roles from the 2023 movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”) were joined onstage by executive producers and showrunners Chris Yost and Alan Wan (“Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the 2012 series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”), as well as Alanna Ubach, who joins the crew as the villainous Bishop.
“It’s an honor to not only be playing a female antagonist, but to be asked to be a part of something that is such a pop culture phenomenon and something that has had so much staying power for the past 40 years,” Ubach told the Comic-Con crowd, saying that she’d been looking to voice a villain because those are the characters that her son,...

This year has been a blessing for animation fans. "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" surpassed expectations and became the biggest movie of the summer, "Nimona" finally was released on Netflix after Disney killed it, "Suzume" saw an anime maestro come full circle, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" made a crap ton of money, and "The First Slam Dunk" defeated "The Way of Water" at the box office with an incredible sports anime that paid off nearly 30-year-old storylines.
Next up is "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," the latest animated attempt at updating the classic characters to a new generation ("Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie" was released just last year). I managed to see a work-in-progress screening at Annecy earlier this year and can say this is an incredible film, and a pure gift to animation fans.

Exclusive: Fresh off the series finale of CBS’ True Lies, Omar Miller has entered production in Italy on Naples to New York, an indie based on a story penned in the 1940s by a young Federico Fellini, who was not yet a filmmaker, and his longtime friend and collaborator Tullio Pinelli.
Set in 1949, this is a story of two children who set off on a journey across the ocean, as stowaways on a ship, looking for a family and opportunity in America. Along the way, they encounter characters both well-meaning and nefarious, who cement their faith in humanity. Miller plays George, an American cook on an international merchant ship who befriends our two young Italian stowaways. He’s a gentle giant with great comedic timing, and a strong sense of humanity.
Gabriele Salvatores is directing from his own script, with Paco Cinematografica, Isabella Cocuzza and Arturo Paglia serving as exec producers.

“Top Gun: Maverick,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Moonage Daydream” and “Good Night Oppy” have won feature-film awards at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards, which were handed out on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
“Top Gun: Maverick,” “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “Elvis” are all nominated in the Oscars’ Best Sound category, a combined category that for the past three years has included both sound editing and sound mixing. At one point in time, Bumblebee was just another Transformer among hundreds in the extended cast of the Transformers universe. Sure he got some starring bits in the original G1 continuity, but it was really the 2007 Transformers movie that propelled Bumblebee to co-headlining status alongside Autobot leader Optimus Prime.
That trend isn’t stopping with the newest Transformers series rolling into Paramount+, which you can watch an exclusive trailer for right here.
While the last few trailers for Transformers: EarthSpark have focused on the new bots, this one gives all the shine to Bumblebee. Unlike other previous incarnations of the character, this Bumblebee is giving major “somewhat clueless teacher” vibes.
Right at the start of the trailer he begins what appears to be a lesson by showing off his arm laser and accidentally shoots down a nearby tree. Bumblebee doesn’t notice though because, while he may be a bit clueless,...

Transformers: EarthSpark, the newest addition to the long-running Transformers franchise, is getting closer every day! With any new iteration from a franchise comes excitement and suspense at what new things will be brought to the table – new characters, new spins on classic designs, and more.
Transformers: EarthSpark is giving us all that and much more in this new exclusive trailer for the Paramount+ series. Watch it below!
Previous trailers had given us some good looks at Terran Transformers bots Thrash and Twitch in their regular Autobot forms but this trailer finally provides a longer look at their alt mode vehicle forms. Twitch is some kind of drone like flying vehicle, with a design somewhat reminiscent of the fan favorite Autobot character Windblade. Any franchise with multiple incarnations will feature dozens of different kinds of characters. Transformers is no different, with factions of different bots that are far beyond simply being Autobots or Decepticons. The amount of different kinds of bots are almost too numerous to count (unless you have a very big toy collection) so the reveal that Transformers: EarthSpark is set to have a new kind of Transformer is a welcome one.
The newest Transformers are the Earthborn Terran bots, Twitch and Thrash, who prominently feature in this exclusive trailer for Transformers: EarthSpark. Watch it below!
“For the first time ever, Transformer bots have been born on Earth.”

We’ve got an exclusive look at a brand new trailer for the animated series Transformers: EarthSpark, which gives us some revealing looks at what’s to come, both for the story and the Transformers themselves. Watch it below!
While we’d been briefly introduced to the Earthborn Terran Transformers, Twitch and Thrash, this trailer gives us a better understanding of what we can expect from them in Transformers: EarthSpark. Though their popularity peaked long before most of today’s actual teenagers were born, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles never really went away. We’re only six years removed from the most recent live-action film based on the pizza-loving reptiles, and it was just two months ago that a new Tmnt video game was released. Ant Ward and Andy Suriano’s “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie,” which arrives on Netflix this week, is based on the animated series that aired on Nickelodeon from 2018 to 2020. While unlikely to bring any nostalgia-minded fans of the series’ early-’90s heyday back into the fold, “Rise” is a serviceable — if also forgettable — entry in the cowabunga canon.
It would be difficult to overstate how obsessed with ninjas and martial arts children were in the ’90s, with the franchise riding the same wave as “Mortal Kombat,” “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and the “3 Ninjas” movies.

Just a few months ago, Netflix appeared to be on a very rough track. Then Stranger Things season 4 came around and led to a less-apocalyptic-than-expected Q2 earnings report for the streamer. With its new releases for August 2022, however, Netflix is going to have to find another hit to keep the good vibes rolling. Here are some of their best options.
Perhaps the biggest breakout candidate for Netflix this month is The Sandman on Aug. 5. Though Neil Gaiman’s classic comic has long been thought to be unadaptable, the folks behind 10-episode series are betting they’re the ones for the job. Get ready to meet Morpheus, the king of dreams and the ruler of The Dreaming.
