The movie is loosely based on Lawrence Michael Levine's dreams. He wanted to capture some parts of his dreams into the screenplay.
Filming took place in Long Lake, NY in the summer of 2019.

Aubrey Plaza, Sarah Gadon and Christopher Abbott stayed in the town of Saranac Lake, NY during filming. They had a 1-hour drive to the set of the cottage which was 5 miles up a dirt road.
The original cut of the film was 4 hours long and received a 16-minute standing applause at the Cannes Film Festival.
