I have to say I wasn't expecting too much but was pleasantly surprised. The main actress Betsy Sodaro is great! She's like a better Melissa McCarthy. Give it a try for sure!

This was described to me as a film about female empowerment and mutually supporting women - but I thought I'd watch it anyway.
Glad I did this is a great, quirky little film with some great characters.
Mary Holland and Betsy Sodaro are a great double act. They have a real roughness about them that is really fresh and I warmed to them instantly. Betsy's irrepressible energy is perfectly counterbalanced by Mary's reserved, proprietary.
I loved them.
The story is simple but lean and glides past in a neat 90 minutes and has just enough to make it interesting without getting bogged down.
As a sport there is not a lot you can do with arm wrestling cinematically to make it exciting- this is mostly about the characters.
There are a few elements that may turn people off:
I love Betsy's gravelly voice but it does have a hint of the "Rick and Morty's" about it that some people may not like.
Some of the acting is a little uneven and some of the dialogue a bit cheesy - I thought that added to the easy tone but may not be for everyone.
As a man, I enjoyed this but it is a "girls first" movie and, although not overpowering, if "girls doing it for themselves" and labia based jokes are not your thing this may just dip out of your wheelhouse.
I would recommend giving this a fair go as it good fun and has a lot of heart.

Don't get me wrong, it is a very amusing movie. I had fun watching it. But the trailer gives sort of a wrong impression being a new "Over the Top" (1987), while in reality this is an Over The Top cross The Karate Kid with The Powerpuff Girls crossover.
So basically we get the trucker and arm-wrestling kind of thing from "Over the Top" (1987), we add the cheating sensei and the sorry-feeling disciple from the "The Karate Kid" (1984) final match and we top it up with "The Powerpuff Girls"(1998)-sorta girl-power thing. The only thing we remove is the actual "Over the Top" parent drama, so in "Golden Arm" there is nothing serious, so generally it is all sugar and sweat with a pinch of glitter in the very end kind of thing.
Generally as I said the result is very amusing. Nice camera work, cool actors, not bad music, tough people and a cute main character which evolves quickly over time. And that's it.
Killing nearly two hours - sure, bring it on. It is amusing, I give it that.

The premise of Karate Kid combined with the underdog against the bully storyline of Over the Top.
It's an ok film. Funny at times. Strange at times.

So kingpin remade as a lame arm wrestling movie?was not funny or entertaining . Once again funny people not being funny .
I actually saw this. It's about a down and out girl who got divorced, ran into an old friend who convinces her to have sex and become an arm wrestler because diversity is our strength or something.
Not kidding! That's the plot. No comedy, at least to me. It has a crude lady truck driver who is the fat trouble maker, the main character is the straight laced serious, need to get laid 2020 lady, who is being held down by the man.
Yep. Is there comedy? Not to me.
Is there propaganda? Oh, yes...aplenty.
Skip this, unless you have a girlfriend and simply need to watch something, pretend to be entertained, so you can get laid.
3 out of 10.

I wasn't expecting much from this film but I actually really enjoyed it and I had several laugh out moments. If you just want a light hearted fun film I highly recommend it.

Greetings from the other side. I took a chance on this movie, and it was good enough to watch once, but just barely.
The main big woman is very annoying, even when trying to be funny. Her comedy type is very much like Melissa McCarthy, who is also not funny. She has one volume level, which is "yelling", and usually contains rude or gross remarks thinking it will get a laugh.
The main thin wowan is the straight man (woman) here, and basically follows the loud-mouths lead. I guessed the ending, and you probably will as well.
There is only so much you can do with an arm wrestling movie, and if Sylvester Stalone failed attempting this, these chicks were doomed from the start.
Anyways, the movie was good enough for a single viewing when you have nothing else to watch. Sadly, I'm at the point where I think I've seen everything worth while, and many of the good movies, I've seen multiple times. I'm stuck looking for hidden gems now.

Honestly this movie is hilarious and has so many great elements. It feels like a throwback but also fresh at the same time. It's a shame Betsy isn't given more prominent roles more often because she is one of the funniest people out there. Whoever was involved with this movie needs to keep making movies and more people need to see them.

What a great gal flick! Many funny one-liners and a cohesive storyline that had me cheering on the Golden Arm!

This is definitely a low brow film, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. It's also a great story about friendship and finding and then embracing who you are. It doesn't go for cheap jokes, which too many low brow comedies do. Mel and Danny bring tons of heart and we laughed out loud a lot, which for me is saying something, since I skew toward dramas. We had to look up whether women's arm wrestling championships was a real thing and it is! Now I just need to know if the strap tricks are legal... this is more than I planned to write but apparently I'm required to write 600 characters to get a review published.. Give this film a chance!
90 minutes of rollicking good fun. Characters drawn broad-brush and actors having a great time doing what 5h3y're doing.
Vibes of "Bridesmaids" and just an all around fun watch. I wish this was a tv show I could see even more of the characters.

The whole movie felt cheap but every corner gave me a giggle. Fresh approach and worth seeing if you can get by the corny feel. Would recommend to any.
This film is a comedic knockout, delivering sharp humor, impeccable timing, and a cast that's on fire. From the opening scene to the credits, it's a laughter marathon with every joke hitting the bullseye. The witty banter and clever gags keep the energy high, making it a wild ride of hilarity that doesn't pull any punches. The chemistry among the cast is palpable, adding an extra layer of enjoyment. Whether it's the clever one-liners or the perfectly executed physical comedy, this movie knows how to tickle your funny bone. The pacing is swift, ensuring there's never a dull moment, and the diverse range of humor caters to various tastes. The film's infectious fun is contagious, leaving you with a grin that lasts long after the credits roll. If you're in need of a pick-me-up, this cinematic gem is the perfect prescription for a good time, packing tons of pure, unfiltered funny business.
Just finished watching this with my husband and my parents. It was a fresh change from all the mindless obnoxious/annoying slapstick humor & raunchy comedies out there. We all thought it was hilarious. The 2 main characters are adorable as friends. I loved all the niave / clueless / goofy banter between the 2 of them. We were laughing through out the entire movie, and that rarely happens anymore. Loved every minute.
