This was a real l y well done story nd script. Most of the acting was very good. Particularly, the Author, the Keeper and the star roles were acted very well. Unfortunately, the cinematography and or editing made this movie seem amateurish. The concept was great, the dilogue was so smart/witty at certain points. I really loved the characters and the story from beginning to end. It was simply dissapointing to see some of the best scenes poorly shot and some sections were so poorly edited. It would be awesome to have this story remade with no script changes, but with a more seasoned cinematographer, director and editor.

I liked the pathos in the movie and the intentions the makers had were clearly quite decent. Now I get it is a low budget production, but the dialogues were lengthy (the same point was often made few times in the same scene), plot (together with the "twists") either predictable or underwhelming. A lot of what I saw in the movie just did not make any sense. There were moments which were intended to be funny, but my forehead was just sore from all the facepalms. I feel sorry for criticising a Christian movie, but honestly I wish I had not watched it...
Low budget, semi-religious snooze-fest with some good acting but a lot of over the top characters. Cannot understand all the scores of 10.
Wonderful movie that challenges you to think about why we are here on earth and gives us a peek inside our Father's heart.

This film will open your eyes to a quality message with a bit of humor to entertain all. It is family friendly and will not disappoint anyone. It is unpredictable and deeply moving!! Check it out. Make a great gift to a loved one!!
Beautiful and inspiring!
This is a film about coming to terms with your past and forgiveness that most anyone can relate to. It also deals with the painful separation of family ties due to memory loss/dementia. Very well written and directed, excellent acting and filmography...it holds your attention from start to finish. And I'm glad the Director, Steve Zambo, chose to validated my own personal opinion that God has a sense of humor. Highly recommend this movie!
This film is a wonderful story of a family's bonds stretched by the pathways they take in life. ASK delivers unexpected twists in a well-crafted plot. Filmed in beautiful midwest locations with scenery that compliments the sentimental feel of the story. Discover some of yourself in the characters and reflect on where the Author of life is leading you!
A wonderful story, superb acting, beautiful scenery and a delicious menu of important things to think about regarding the story of one's life and the impact it can make.
This movie is a beautiful story! We do appreciate having quality movies to watch with our family. Everyone from age 7 up was engaged in this film. We fell in love with the characters. The acting is very well done. I particularly enjoyed this because I have a Father in heaven that suffered from dementia and it brought back all the memories of him. I found myself in tears at the end so be warned. This story will hit your heart!
This movie was done with such love and care in all aspects.... the beautiful storyline , acting, music , and Christian message.
I've watched the Movie and ordered it and have it in my home .

Salty Earth Pictures sees biblical truths through a cinematic lens, and nowhere is that truer than in the world of "The Author, the Star, and the Keeper." The story is quite real to so many people: A father nearly lost in dementia, a son estranged from him and feeling guilt over it, two men who lost their connection long ago and perhaps have moved past the hope of ever reestablishing it.
But this motion picture explores this dilemma from new angles. The old man is not just a MacGuffin; even though his wits are scrambled, he is trying desperately to convey something important to his grown son. The son, flushed with success on the stage, knows that he needs to undo his failure towards his father. This movie doesn't deal with unabashed pathos or with a clash of personalities. It is the story of two men who know instinctively that their love for one another must not be finally lost, but who don't know how to avoid it.
However, they aren't the only ones trying to remedy this sad situation before it is too late. And this is the charm and the hope of the movie. A third hand is subtly at work to bring about a reconciliation, and the drama of the story is in the question: Can it be done?
The viewer finds himself sometimes as annoyed with the characters as they are with each other, and sometimes aching to see them regain what they once lost. You will find yourself hoping against hope for them, just as they have to. And perhaps you will recognize in your own life the same beacon which, like the lighthouse at the center of this story, seeks to bring you out of the darkness we weave about ourselves and into a warm and inviting light.

Thank you for making a movie worth watching that gives pause for thought and introspect of the lives that we are living between the dash!
