Official submission of North Macedonia for the 'Best International Feature Film' category of the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021.
The research for Willow required delving into the lifestyle of the 16th century Macedonian peasant, but also knowledge of in-vitro procedures and of potential autism in children. Six outside advisors worked on the film. In addition, Manchevski spent a year consulting historical sources for the first part of the film.
