Like others, what gripped me into watching 'After the Storm' was the cover, which was lovely and indicated a heartfelt and heart-warming film. And also the concept, Lauren's circumstances on paper are really devastating and sounded very relatable which always makes a big difference when watching anything for me. UPTV's output was very up and down, and still is, but they have done good films in the past and continue to do so. Was hoping this would be one of them, as it had potential to be.
'After the Storm', watched with admittedly no prior knowledge of the source material so cannot compare, sadly was not one of the good ones. UPTV have done worse and there are worse films out there overall, but when it comes to wastes of good potential 'After the Storm' is definitely in that group for me and quite high up. Didn't think it was unwatchable and it did have a few good things, but it peters out after a good start and promises a lot more than it delivers (which isn't sadly).
Beginning with the good things, 'After the Storm' starts off well. Very charming and moving, and it didn't feel forced and it was not hard to feel for Lauren in a devastating situation. Bo Yokely does a nice job in his role, with a dashing charm and subtle charisma.
It is a nice looking film, with beautiful scenery. Some of the soundtrack is pleasant.
Madeline Leon for me was less good, she started off quite well but when Lauren became less likeable and became more self-absorbed instead of easier to relate to Leon became less relaxed and almost every emotion felt too try hard like while also managing to be bland. Her chemistry with Yokely isn't there, too low key and distant. The supporting cast is flat in sketchy roles. The characters are never fleshed out enough and the direction is workmalike at best and tends to be plodding.
On the whole, 'After the Storm' looks good but there is a little too much emphasis on long shots and some of it veer on self-indulgence. Despite moments, the music tends to be too drab and could have been used less. The script is often awkward and the cheesiness and schmaltz becomes too much. Meaning that the film becomes too maudlin and sugary sweet rather than uplifting. The story is very predictable and sluggishly paced, also feeling thin structurally. The ending is too rushed and pat, with a 180 decision that goes from one to the other in practically no time.
Summarising, good potential not lived up to. 4/10.

It's a wholesome movie, where people from all walks of life can watch. Collin (Bo Yokely), is just so handsome that any starry eyed girls will be drooling...and Lauren (Madeline Leon) is a girl crush to watch. I like the story, simple not complicated, very good specially if you're passing your time. I'll recommend it mostly to the young at hearts.
This isn't the best film I've ever seen. Which girl looks so perfect when she builds her dream home? However, if you put the bad to one side this film is about helping the community and love and overcoming obstacles. It is a heart warming film!

The storyline could have made this a great movie, but it falls flat.
The idea of a love-hate relationship and the devastation of a town makes for the base of a sexually charged movie. But unfortunately this movie did not deliver.
The acting was awful and the chemistry between the actors was lacking. The dialogue was boring and did drag on and on.
Scenes on front porches or inside the church took longer shots than needed and made it seem like the budget for this film was truly lacking.
Gave a hallmark feel without the feels.
Overall I do not recommend this film.
The cover art for the movie made it seem like it was going to be this heartfelt romance.

I've sat through my fair share of average made for TV movies but I couldn't even make it halfway through this, between the poor acting and storyline it's definitely a 👎from me.

I stumbled across this late one night when I couldn't sleep. I kept on watching mainly because there was a gorgeous husky in it! It turned out to be not too bad. Our heroine looked normal, not perma tanned and glossy. It passed 90 minutes. I actually quite enjoyed it. There are a lot worse films out there.
The teacher is so childish bland awful hair I like Colin she is too trying to be a feminist .ruined movie with lousy acting hope they do not cast her again.

Completely waste money making it, and wate of time trying to sit through this awful film
Unfortunately there is nothing good to say about this movie so save yourself the 2 hrs as life's to short. The acting, zero chemistry, storyline, production (evident by all storm and house recovery scenes being zoomed in on 1 frame) and the directing. I am an avid fan of low budget and also independent movies so I am used to watching movies without the frills of a big budget, but this one was definitely not worth the time. This movie is comparable to a small town local production. There is one aspect which I enjoyed, the soundtrack (not the volume at which the songs were played but the choice of songs )
This is based on the Harlequin novel, Marooned with a Maverick and the producers did an excellent job on the adaptation. There is so much passion that comes through that you just can't get off the page. Newcomer Madeleine Leon is one to watch!

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought that Madeleine Leon was perfect for this role and she did an excellent job portraying the character, Lauren. I thought the pace of the movie was good. Many movies in this genre present a conflict, immediate resolution, and then the movie ends. This movie took the time needed to build up the conflict with deep explanations of the cause and then resolved it at a pace that felt right.

It's a very wholesome movie to watch. To be honest; it did not at all feel like the movie was an hour and a half. It just felt like had been watching for about 20 minutes.
It's VERY family friendly movie, and although it definitely has clichés in it, I did not mind it at all.
There is not a lot that happens in this story and that makes it very easy to follow and it is great to watch while you're doing other stuff.
I recommend it for people who love a romance story and a happy ending.
And the actors did a great job. There also weren't a lot a faces that were important to remember, which again, makes it an easy watch.

I really relate to this movie, being in a somewhat similar situation to the lead character. Any age can watch this film and feel difficulties can be overcome and even turn out to be a stepping stone to something better.

Whew.
It took about three months before deciding to write "here" about this. This isn't any spectacular review or anything close to it. This is just mainly about how I FEEL about the movie.
This movie is better than I expected it to be. It's based on MAROONED WITH A MAVERICK by Christine Rimmer, with some differences, but the movie made for UPTV tried to be true to the original.
I liked the chemistry between MADELINE LEON and BO YOKELY plus the dog who was like their "Cupid".
Willa was rejected by Collin years back, but the devastating storm brought them together...and may I repeat, the dog named Dancer.
The people around them noticed that there's a "vibe" between the two of them, but somehow, there was something stopping the two of them to be together, until after the storm.
The storm did bring them together, but Willa had a beau, but before you think that this is a simple triangle, think again. There's more to it than meets the eye.
Willa is a strong, steadfast woman of Faith, and only a man who could accept that...
The movie is predictable with a few surprises. I liked that the flashbacks were not confusing, and the acting didn't seem to be forced.
It surely wouldn't be a waste of your time.

I am not quite a fan of this kind of movies, but i decided to watch it after a bad day, being tired to listen tons of bad bollywoodian romanian gypsy and popular music from my uncivilised neighbourhood and suddently i was hooked by the atmosphere of the movie and the music which reassambles very much with the music i used to listen back in the 90's, when i was a teenager and later, an young adult, when Mtv was still a thing in my cuuntry. Even the look of the main male character reasambles very much with my look that i kept even since those days when even the air which sourroud us was more cal and more pacifit and even the most borring days were a blessing. I don't know why, but this movie was the best remedy for my bad day and i highly recommend to anybody which has the need for something optimistic in their lives.
