Saban Films is getting in the Nicolas Cage business.

The studio has acquired “Butcher’s Crossing,” a frontier epic that stars the off-beat, Oscar winner as a buffalo hunter. The deal covers rights in North America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia.

Gabe Polsky, who directed the documentary “Red Penguins,” slides behind the camera on this one. He wrote the script, as well. It’s an adaptation of a novel by John Williams. The film is produced by Polsky and Molly Conners of Phiphen Pictures alongside Will Clarke and Andy Mayson for Altitude Film Entertainment and Cage’s Saturn Films. Ingenious Media is funding, with Peter Touche, Jamie Jessop and Christelle Conan executive producing. Principal photography will begin this fall.

“Butcher’s Crossing” is set in the 1870s, and finds Cage’s character taking on a young Harvard dropout, who is seeking his destiny in the Colorado wilderness.

LA-based Premiere Entertainment Group’s (Peg) Randy Couture heist thriller Blowback has wrapped production ahead of a sales launch at the virtual Cannes Marché in June.

Six-time UFC champion Couture (The Expendables franchise; The Scorpion King 2) stars alongside Cam Gigandet (Twilight franchise; Priest) in the story of Nick (Gigandet) who goes after Jack (Couture) after he is betrayed during a Las Vegas heist.

Rounding out the cast are Louis Mandylor, Michele Plaia, Rafael Cabrera, and William McNamara. Production took place entirely in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Exclusive: Drew Van Acker, Alicia Silverstone and Stephen Moyer have just wrapped production on Shtf (Sh*t Hits the Fan), a sci-fi thriller directed by Drew Mylrea from a script by Josh Janowicz. Shooting just finished in Butte, Mt.

The pic is set in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event that forces people into extreme isolation. A father (Moyer) and son (Van Acker), who have been living off grid for 20 years, encounter an outsider (Silverstone) who threatens to destroy the utopia they’ve built.

Sunil Perkash, Colin Bates, Akaash Yadav and Michael Jefferson are producing. Van Acker, Wes Hull and Daniel Brandt are executive producers.

For Pretty Little Liars alum Van Acker, the movie marks a reteam with Mylrea after the actor starred in the director’s Spy Intervention last year opposite Poppy Delevingne. He also plays Aqualad on DC Universe’s Titans and is repped by ICM Partners and Luber/Roklin.

Changing lanes for a minute in my viewing pleasure, I decided to sit down and a watch a rom-com with my wife and it has to be said – with none other than Alicia Silverstone and Tom Everett Scott starring – it felt like my 90s nostalgia none was going to be tickled. We were also optimistic that with the title of Sister of the Groom we may get some Father of the Bride vibes… We did not! Though thankfully Tom Everett Scott did enough in the first 10 minutes of this film to kept me watching to the end.

I do find myself wondering how I actually feel about the film though – its very much a middle-of-the-road rom-com, with Alicia Silverstone doing her best Drew Barrymore homage in Sister of the Groom, aka The Pleasure of Your Presence.

Saban Films has acquired rights to the U.S. and Canada on Jaume Balagueró’s “The Vault” (F.K.A. “Way Down”), starring Famke Janssen of “X-Men” franchise fame, Sam Riley, and Golden Globe nominee Freddie Highmore.

Also starring are Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (“King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”) and Liam Cunningham (“Game of Thrones”).

Produced by Álvaro Augustin, Ghislain Barrois, Highmore, Eneko Lizarraga and Francisco Sánchez, “The Vault” will be released by Saban Films in theaters, on demand and digitally on Jan. 22.

The U.S deal was negotiated by Saban Films’s Jonathan Saba with CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers and TF1 Studio, the cinema division of top French broadcast group TF1, which is handling international sales.

Saban Films’s acquisition comes as TF1 Studio closed further key territories on “The Vault,” with Eagle Pictures snagging Italy, and U.K. rights taken by Signature Entertainment.

Saban Films has acquired the rights to two titles from Munich-based “Resident Evil” producer Constantin Film.

The deals include North American and U.K. rights to the adventure thriller “Tides,” directed by Tim Fehlbaum, and North American rights to director Mike P. Nelson’s anticipated horror reboot, “Wrong Turn.”

Mister Smith Entertainment is handling worldwide sales on both Constantin titles this week at the virtual American Film Market, where the titles will be screening for buyers.

“Tides” marks the second film from Swiss-born director Fehlbaum, who burst to attention with his debut feature “Hell,” another sci-fi thriller.

Saban Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to Seth Savoy’s directorial debut “Echo Boomers” ahead of the launch of the Toronto film market.

The crime drama stars Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michael Shannon, Alex Pettyfer, Hayley Law, Lesley Ann Warren (“Jobs”), and Oliver Cooper (“Californication”).

The film follows a group of disillusioned twenty-somethings, who use Chicago as their playground by breaking into the homes of its wealthiest citizens, stealing from the rich and taking for themselves.

Savoy wrote the script with Kevin Bernhardt, and Jason Miller. Miller is also producing alongside Speakeasy’s James Langer, Mike Ware, Matthew G. Zamias, Lucas Jarach, Kelly Mi Li, Jeff G. Waxman and Wetzel Entertainment Group’s Byron Wetzel and Sean Kaplan.

Saban Films is closing a deal for North American distribution rights to Love, Weddings & Other Disasters, a romantic comedy starring Oscar winners Diane Keaton and Jeremy Irons. Dennis Dugan wrote and directed the film, which is about the people who work on weddings to create the perfect day for a loving couple – while their own relationships are outlandish, odd, crazy, and far from perfect.

Maggie Grace, Jesse McCartney, Chandra West, Diego Boneta, Andrew Bachelor, and Veronica Ferres round out the cast.

Dugan produced the film along with Align’s Adrian Politowski and Martin Metz, and Fortitude International’s Nadine de Barros. Executive Producer is SquareOne Entertainment’s Al Munteanu.

Saban Films has acquired the U.S. rights to “Buddy Games,” a comedy and the directorial debut from actor Josh Duhamel, the distributor announced Friday. A release date has not yet been announced.

“Buddy Games” is about a group of friends who reunite for a series of absurd physical and mental challenges and in the process heal old wounds, right past wrongs and figure out the true meaning of friendship…or die trying. Duhamel also stars in the film alongside Olivia Munn, Dax Shepard, Kevin Dillon, James Roday, Nick Swardson and Dan Bakkedahl.

“I set out to make a movie that I would want to see – something grounded but outrageous enough to shock audiences, and ultimately a story of friendship and camaraderie,” Duhamel said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Saban Films for giving us the perfect platform for audiences to see it.”

Saban Films announced Wednesday it has acquired the North American rights to “The Stand-In,” a comedy from Jamie Babbit that stars Drew Barrymore and Drew Barrymore in a dual lead role.

Babbit’s film was a selection of Tribeca and co-stars Michael Zegen, Ellie Kemper, T.J. Miller and Holland Taylor. Sam Bain wrote the script.

“The Stand-In” is the story of a disaffected comedy actress busted for tax evasion and her adoring, ambitious stand-in who she hires to do community service in her place. A co-dependent relationship ensues as the actress begins to use the stand-in in all parts of her life to escape from the stressful demands of fame. Eventually, the stand-in starts to take the actress’s identity, career and boyfriend and finally kicks her out of her own house.

Saban Films has acquired the North American and U.K. rights to Jared Cohn’s “Reactor,” starring Bruce Willis. The Exchange is handling international sales at the Cannes Market.

“Reactor” follows a former soldier as he takes down a gang of mercenaries whose leader’s (Willis) lust for revenge leads to him holding a nuclear power plant hostage.

Cohn (“Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash”) wrote the script along with Cam Cannon (“USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage”), and Stephen Cyrus Sepher (“Heist”).

Almost Never Films’ Danny Chan and Danny Roth, 308 Entertainment’s Corey Large and Johnny Messner are producing with executive producer Steven Eads.

Former American Woman star Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein (9Jkl) are set for lead roles in The Baby-Sitters Club, Netflix’s live-action series adaptation of Ann M. Martins bestselling book series. Production has begun on the single-camera family show in Vancouver.

The 10-episode series is being produced by The Chronicles of Narnia producer Walden Media and Escape at Dannemora producer Michael De Luca, who will executive produce alongside Lucy Kitada.
