While the character was played by Charlize Theron, who wanted to return for Furiosa, in Fury Road, Miller felt de-aging technology isn’t convincing enough just yet for Theron to play a much younger version of the character, so he cast Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role for Furiosa. Theron has said that being left out of Furiosa was “a little heartbreaking” – but that hasn’t kept her from seeing or praising the finished film.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron confirmed that she has seen Furiosa and, “It’s amazing, it’s a beautiful film.“

Unfortunately, Theron and Taylor-Joy still haven’t had an opportunity to meet up and discuss their experiences playing the same character.

When it comes to a George Miller directed Mad Max saga movie, actors are committed 1000% to the stunts, but composers are there too for the long haul.

So much so, that Furiosa composer Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie Xl moved to Sydney, Australia to pen the score, his third with Miller after Mad Max: Fury Road and Three Thousand Years of Longing. In fact, there’s a fine line between the metallic bang of motorcycles and trucks, and bass, and one of the arbitrator of that is Holkenborg who had a hand in sound mixing Furiosa.

Holkenborg points out that when it came to the music in Furiosa, it’s character-driven given how it centers around the protagonist’s life from 8 to 18 years of age, versus Fury Road, which took place in a desert race of 48 hours.

George Miller keeps a photo on his phone. Taken somewhere in the ’70s, it’s a picture of Craig Hemsworth — back when the father of Chris Hemsworth hung out with the same gang of motorbike riders that appeared in the original “Mad Max.” He even knew Wonder Dog, that film’s cycle-riding canine. And of course, the younger Hemsworth is a dead ringer for his dad.

“[Chris] dug deep,” Miller told IndieWire of his “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” star. “He is highly considered on anything and everything, multi-dimensional. And he has wisdom. He is just 40. My knee-jerk reaction to the CGI-enhanced War Boy is one of apprehension. How large of a role does this character play in the film, and will their cartoonishness offset an otherwise incredible-looking film? I hope not. One of the more thrilling elements of Miller’s Mad Max series is the visual spectacle, and I worry the CGI-enhanced War Boy could be an “arrow to the knee.” I could be entirely off base, and I’m simply being paranoid for no good reason.

His sprawling "Mad Max" franchise now includes five feature films, novelizations, a comic book series, and two video games — all helping expand a post-apocalyptic Wasteland loaded with lore, characters, and laws different from our own. As an audience, we know where Imperator Furiosa's story ends up, but "Furiosa" will show us how she got there.

Reviews will have to wait till the Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 14, but it’s not too early for a critic to weigh in on this year’s lineup — or how it looks on paper, at least, and what the selection might say about the state of things.

Miller told the eager CinemaCon crowd that Furiosa takes place over 18 years, whereas Fury Road’s story lasted three days. It’s official: George Miller returns to La Croisette for the world premiere of his latest “Mad Max” saga. Deadline reports that “Furiosa” will open the 2024 edition of the Cannes Film Festival on May 15. But like Miller’s previous film “Three Thousand Years Of Longing,” another Cannes world premiere, it’ll debut outside the festival’s main competition.

George Miller’s anticipated sequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been confirmed as the opening film of the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes premiere for the fifth instalment in the Mad Max franchise comes nine years after Warner Warner successfully launched Mad Max: Fury Road at Cannes in 2015.

The new instalment – starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke – releases theatrically in France on May 22, two days ahead of its U.S. launch.

“The idea of this prequel has been with me for over a decade,” said Miller. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to the Festival de Cannes – along with Anya, Chris and Tom – to share Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. After much speculation, the Cannes Film Festival has officially revealed that “Furiosa” will world premiere on the Croisette in 2024.

The prequel will screen out of competition on May 15 at the Grand Theatre Lumière at le Palais des Festivals. The premiere comes nine years after director George Miller unveiled “Mad Max: Fury Road” at the festival in 2015. The Warner Bros title will play out of competition on May 15 ahead of its theatrical release on May 22 internationally and May 24 in the US.

Grant Page, the Australian stunt icon who performed in and coordinating stunts for the original Mad Max, sequel Beyond Thunderdome, the upcoming prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and more than 100 other films and TV series, died Thursday in a car crash. He was 85.

When director George Miller needed to fill the role of Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road, he turned to actor Hugh Keays-Byrne, who had previously played the villainous Toecutter in the original Mad Max. Sadly, Keays-Byrne passed away in 2020, before Miller could get the prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga into production – so in this movie, which is set to reach theatres on May 24, the role of Immortan Joe is being played by Lachy Hulme. Hulme’s casting in the role was confirmed by Empire, and they also scored a great quote from Hulme about the scope of the film.
