Anne Hathaway is set to star in Amazon MGM Studios’ feature adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s thriller novel Verity.

Michael Showalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) is directing the film that is planned for a theatrical release. Nick Antosca wrote the current script following the previous work of scribes Hillary Seitz, Angela Lamanna and the team of Will Honley and April Maguire.

Verity centers on struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford to complete the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who has suffered a mysterious accident. Lowen soon learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the family’s past.

Serving as producers are Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, Hoover for Heartbones Entertainment and Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny. Executive producing is Heartbones Entertainment’s Lauren Levine.

Hathaway is set to star in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming feature Verity, which Showalter is helming. Based on the No. 1 New York Times bestseller by Colleen Hoover, the current script is written by Nick Antosca. As I sat through the North American premiere of Pablo Larraín’s biopic of Maria Callas at the Telluride Film Festival, which stars Angelina Jolie as the famed opera singer, I couldn’t help but recall a line from Al Pacino in “The Godfather Part III” (1990): “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!”

It’s been an awfully long time since Jolie was contending for a statuette — her last acting nomination was for 2008’s “Changeling” and she’s spent the time since then starring in popcorn movies like “Salt” and “Maleficent” or directing films like “Unbroken.” But if you needed a reminder of what a formidable acting talent Jolie is, it’s on display in her transformative portrayal of one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century. It’s a chameleonic turn that can best be described as a a kind of cinematic possession.

“The Runarounds,” a young adult drama inspired by the real eponymous band, has added six series regulars to its cast. Brooklyn Decker, Maximo Salas, Marley Aliah, Hayes MacArthur, Mark Wystrach and Shea Pritchard are joining on to the cast of the series, created by “Outer Banks” creator Jonas Pate and produced by Skydance Television.

Gabriel Olds has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting three women whom he dated between 2013 and 2023, with seven felony counts against him.

The 52-year-old actor, who played televangelist Pat Robertson in the 2021 film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” was arrested on Wednesday and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

The D.A. is recommending he be held on $3.5 million bail. If convicted, he faces a maximum life sentence.

Olds is charged with three counts of forcible rape; one count of rape of an unconscious or asleep person; one count of sodomy by use of force; one count of assault with intent to commit a felony; and one count of injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend, or child’s parent, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.

The American Cinematheque is set to give Jessica Chastain its top prize.

Chastain will be honored with the American Cinematheque Award on Dec. 6 during a ceremony in Beverly Hills that will also see Oppenheimer producer Charles Roven receive the Power of Cinema Award.

“She (Chastain) is a fierce advocate for social causes and an active film and television producer. In all her endeavors, a commitment to excellence shines through as well as a burning intelligence. The American Cinematheque is proud and honored to present Jessica Chastain with the 38th American Cinematheque Award,” the organization’s board chair Rick Nicita said in a statement on Friday.

Mothers’ Instinct, a remake of the 2018 Belgian film Duelles, went into production back in May of 2022, with Academy Award winners Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) and Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) – who also happen to be close friends in their personal lives – in the lead roles. Once filming had wrapped, Hathaway revealed that her role in the film was the hardest she had ever played, as it tapped into her own worst fear. She also led her country through the Covid pandemic and grappled with issues such as child poverty and climate change.

The feature-length film is currently untitled. It follows Ardern from the moment she receives the Labour Party nomination to the birth of her child to her resignation in 2023, when she was at the height of her power and popularity. The filmmakers are promising a movie that provides a “very raw and personal point of view of politics in our time,” as well as a feature that comes with Arden’s support. Jessica Chastain always manages to turn heads with her fashion choices. I find her style bold and daring; for me, she’s a total red carpet icon. She constantly impresses me with her ability to pull off unique looks that perfectly flatter her figure.

Apple TV+ wants to keep the caftans coming and has ordered up a second season of “Palm Royale,” the late ‘60s Florida-set society comedy starring Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Alison Janney, Josh Lucas, Ricky Martin, Leslie Bibb, Bruce Dern, and the nonagenarian Carol Burnett.

With brutal competition for streaming comedies right now, Apple’s Matt Cherniss was eager to boast about the series breaking through with audiences. “‘Palm Royale’ has delighted global audiences and we are thrilled that viewers will have the opportunity to spend more time with this highly entertaining, iconic cast, from Kristen Wiig to the incomparable Carol Burnett,” he said in a statement.
