With so many teen films I always hate the lies. This one was honest, the characters were kinda bad at being young. They were bad and relatable. It was funny and moving.
Hilarious and honest Dutch comedy bout teen boys' quest to enter club. El-Hamus captured Amsterdam vibes superbly into single day narrative. Their characters might be annoying at times but Wahib, Kolf, Ahammoud conveyed teen spirits and bromance quite well.
From the very beginning of De Libi, I kept on thinking to myself "ah yes, if I get asked next time how it is to live in Amsterdam, I have this movie to show as a response". More than anything, it seemed to capture the vibe really well. I don't think it would be as entertaining for Dutch people themselves as it is if you are a foreigner, but there's a lot of the humor to relate to for sure if you are watching as a kind of an outsider.
Special round of applause to the actors. There were some nuanced layers in the characters that not everyone can deliver.
I ran into this movie accidentally, so I had zero expectations. It's not going to be my next favorite movie, but I'm glad it exists.
