Exterior scenes were filmed with natural light only. For interior scenes natural light and some of preexisting lights on locations were used.
Post-production took place in Slovenia (Domzale, Kocevje, Ljubljana and Vojnik) and Austria (Vienna).
Director Janez Lapajne never uses a storyboard when he makes films. During filming he always decide then and there how events should be set up and viewed. He makes use of what the setting offers him in any given moment. He opted for Dutch angle filming just before filming, and he chose the musical score during editing.
Director Janez Lapajne leaves any judgment of the actions taken by the characters and their consequences to the viewer. He never wants to prescribe or dictate. He simply wanted to present to viewers with the capacity for empathy a main character who transforms from victim to perpetrator, but who, in contrast to the typical evil-doer, is capable of moral judgment over his own actions.
In the framing and method of placing the music in the film director Janez Lapajne wanted to feel into the main character's sensing and experiencing of himself and the world around him, along with his inner impulses. And ultimately to feel into his inclination toward extreme action. The same applies to the natural environment, which frequently plays a major part in shaping the settings of Lapajne's films. For him nature is a kind of supporting actor, in fact a partner to the film's characters.
