At the end of the 19th century, Italy is witnessing an epoch-making phenomenon of migration towards America. The young nun Frances Xavier Cabrini is asked by the Church to devote herself and her nuns to this new mission and leave for New York. Frances is perplexed: accepting would mean giving up her dream of being a missionary to the East. After a difficult process, Frances accepts the mission to the New York. But once in New York, she finds none of what has been promised.
