Jay's laid-back attitude doesn't go down too well with his father (Neeraj Sood), who has bigger aspirations for him. Jay has failed a couple of subjects in college and is struggling to clear them even after 1.5 years of finishing college.
Jay's father forces Jay to get a job at a call center. Jay gets trained for a month and even makes a girlfriend named Shruti, who borrows money from him. Jay doesn't like the job and is frequently late to office due to the irrational demands of his new girlfriend. Jay couldn't hold on to the job. He is fired, when he has a meltdown at work upon finding that his then girlfriend was cheating on him. Jay gets a call at his terminal asking to book 2 cinema tickets. Since the guy's phone was dead, he gives Jay his girlfriend's phone number, which was the same as Jay's girlfriend Shruti. Jay's father feels embarrassed due to Jay's failures and constantly berates him that he will amount to nothing in life.
Jay wants to be a cook, but only his useless friends Deepu (Shivam Parekh) and Raunak (Pratik Gandhi) understand his ambition. He even makes a few cooking videos and posts them on YouTube. Jay's father is completely not supportive of his chef ambitions. Jay believes that a good dish is like a piece of art which is appreciated by the customer.
Therefore, in order to bring stability in his life, his father decides to get him married. Jay agrees as the dowry of Rs 1 Crores will provide interest of Rs 1 Lakhs per month, which will be useful for his restaurant business.

Jay and Avni get locked in Avni's room due to a faulty door (when Jay visits the bathroom and Avni was still in the room) and get time to share their stories. The door will now only open when the electricity comes back on. Avni also has a past, Vikram (Prateik Babbar) was a senior at Avni's college. Vikram is street smart and charming and has no trouble in winning over Avni. Soon, Avni and Vikram are dating regularly.
Vikram also wants to start a food shop. Avni suggests that he opens a Food truck instead. Avni argues that food trucks require low investment and opening a restaurant in one location can be very risky. She fights her dad to get Rs 10 Lakhs to buy Vikram a food truck, since he doesn't have the money for it. But then Vikram gets engaged to a super-rich girl in Delhi and ditches Avni.

Jay realizes that he made a dish at a restaurant that got served to Avni when she on a date with Vikram. Turns out Vikram had shown Jay's meltdown video to Avni, which was uploaded to social media.
But then suddenly the families burst in and declare that Jay's family reached the wrong address. Avni rejects the next family, but Jay accepts the next girl Richa (Perlene Bhersaina) he sees as the money is still assured. A few days later Avni reaches out to Jay as proposes they start the food truck business together. Jay tells Avni that he is now engaged. But then Jay's new father-in-law (Mohan Kapoor) tells him that he wants his son-in-law to manage his business & asks Jay for his business credentials. Jay lies that he has a food truck.
Now Jay goes back to Avni and begs her to start the food truck business with her. Avni takes full advantage of the situation and gets Jay to do all the hard work. Avni gets Jay the first order, but Jay celebrates with his friends by getting drunk and is late for his first gig. In desperation he buys starters from a different shop and sells it as his own. But he doesn't know that he had bought food from the host's shop (a food shop in town). The host berates Avni.
Avni breaks up the partnership with Jay. But then Jay goes and helps with Avni's situation with her dad (who wants to get her married asap). Avni returns the favor and helps Jay's dad understand his ambition. This time the entire family blesses their business. The business is a success. They break even in a month. Jay's future father-in-law comes calling and offers to buy out Avni and sponsor her studies in Australia. He also announces Jay's engagement with his daughter. Avni is heart broken when Vikram comes back into her life.
Avni breaks up the business with Jay and tells him that she is also getting engaged. On the night of Jay's engagement Avni and Jay talk and Jay admits that he is nothing without her. They get back together, and everyone blesses their re-union.
