The day this song was recorded was also the same day Dolores O'Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries and writer of "Zombie", was found dead. Originally O'Riordan was set to record her vocals on the track that day. Bad Wolves decided that all proceeds from this song went to her family.
The gold covered woman (played by Ava Capra) is a homage to the The Cranberries "Zombie" music video from 1994, where Dolores O'Riordan performs a similar role.
Short after the end of the guitar solo (3:27) the gold covered girl etches "1-15-18", the date of O'Riordan's death, into the paint.
On 19 June 2018, during a gig in New York City Bad Wolves invited the children of Dolores O'Riordan onstage and presented them with a check for $250,000.
Bad Wolves slightly altered the lyrics: On the one hand they inserted a reference to modern drone warfare and on the other hand they replaced "since 1916" - a reference to the Easter Rising in Dublin - with "in 2018" which also refers to the release date of their debut album "Disobey".
