Pressing play on an action movie like “Canary Black” is like ordering at McDonald’s. You’ve already agreed to lower your standards, so you don’t get to complain that it’s ultra-processed junk food. That’s what you signed up for. You were in the mood for middle-of-the-road comfort sustenance and that’s all you have any right to expect.
But we’ve all been to a fast food joint where, yes, you technically got what you paid for, but it was so greasy you could barely eat it. Or it got squashed for no discernible reason. Or it’s got a hair in it. Sure, you ordered off the dollar menu but even the dollar menu makes a few meager promises, and if they can’t even get that right… well, you have “Canary Black.”
“Canary Black” is a new kidnapping thriller from Pierre Morel, who 15 years ago directed “Taken.

Michael ‘Duffy’ Duffield was a soldier, now he’s a drifter, dealing with Ptsd and living on the move. As Lights Out begins, he gets off a bus, and it’s not even five minutes before he finds himself in a card game and accused of cheating. The ease with which he dispatches the other players and takes his money catches the eye of Max Bomer.
Max is just out of jail and looking for a way to make some money, and he sees Duffy’s skill with his fists as the way to do it. He just has to convince him to take part in some illegal underground fight clubs like the one run by Fosco. And, since Duffy could use some cash himself,...

Last year, in the build up to Christmas, we had the pleasure of speaking to Luke Goss to mark the release of his festive flick The Loss Adjuster. After our chat with the Bros star, we felt enriched. His outlook on life was infectious, and so needless to say, we were rather looking forward to having the chance to chat to him again, this time for US gangster flick Hollow Point – which is out now.
Thankfully, it seemed Luke was as pleased to see us as we were him, recognising the connection made just a few months prior. But the type of film being promoted here is a somewhat different one, and we asked about the allure of the gangster flick, and if they are as cool to star in as they can often be to watch. He also talks about his process, and whether he fancies working on any more lighter films,...

"Someone has to deliver justice to these criminals!" Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for an indie action film called Hollow Point, one of the latest from director Daniel Zirilli (who has already made a few other films since this first debuted). This originally premiered at The Netherlands and the UK a few years ago, but is only now finally getting a US release on VOD. Basically getting dumped into the bargain bin for obvious reasons. When his wife and daughter are senselessly murdered, a grieving man finds himself caught up in a war between a group of charismatic vigilantes and the crime that infests their city. Set mostly in Los Angeles. Oh so original. The film stars Luke Goss, Dilan Jay, Jay Mohr, JuJu Chan, Michael Paré, and Bill Duke. This just looks so awful, especially the dialogue and the action and everything else in here. Here's the...

"She only knows what the demon allows her to see!" Kaleidoscope Entertainment + Lionsgate have released an official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Dawn, which is headed straight-to-dvd this month for anyone who likes watching this kind of supernatural horror. Following the murder of her family at the hands of her father in the wake of World War I, a young woman is sent to live in a convent up in the North East. However, the demons that plagued her father follow her, reawakening the nightmares of her past. Starring Devanny Pinn as Rose, with a cast including Stacey Dash, Ryan Kiser, David Goryl, Heather Wynters, Teilor Grubbs, Jonathan Bennett, Julie Rose, and Andrew E. Wheeler. It mostly seems like yet another cliche religious horror story, but damn this trailer has some extra creepy imagery - that long black hand, all the screaming, freaky nuns galore, and a bit more.
