The film was a follow up production to 'Waru' (2017) which had a similar narrative structure of eight segments each with a running time of about ten minutes.
The move filmed in seven different Pacific nations: Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Kuki Airani (Cook Islands), Samoa, Niue and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
The film is an anthology portmanteau picture directed by nine female Pacific nations filmmakers.
The word 'vai' means water in each of the Pacific nations that the film shot.
