Steven Spielberg is diving back into the world of “Jaws” for an upcoming National Geographic documentary.
Spielberg, who helmed the iconic 1975 film adaptation of Peter Benchley’s bestselling book, will produce documentary “Jaws @ 50” (working title) through his Amblin Documentaries banner. The film celebrates the 50th anniversary of the book; the feature “Jaws” recently marked its 49th anniversary on June 18, 2024.
Nedland Media’s Laurent Bouzereau will direct the documentary that includes footage and photography from the Benchley and Spielberg archives, plus all-new interviews from the worlds of film, literature, pop culture, and ocean conservation.
Author Benchley’s legacy further lives on with ocean conservation and marine policy advocate Wendy Benchley, who will be featured in the film along with branding and communications specialist Laura A. Bowling.

Jon Wertheim knows just how intense sports rivalries can get.
The author, Sports Illustrated executive editor and 60 Minutes correspondent has dedicated years to covering one of the most legendary rivalries in all of sports — Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal — through his work at Si as well as in the 2009 book, Strokes of Genius, and again in the 2018 Tennis Channel documentary adaptation that scored two Emmy nominations.
For a follow-up, Wertheim teamed with collaborators that included Michael Hughes’ Dlp Media, director Peter Karl (The Long Game) and Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons to shift the focus from the tennis court to the gridiron to investigate one of college football’s most fiery and longest-running rivalries: Ohio State vs. Michigan. The Buckeyes and Wolverines hail from neighboring states and the same conference with a rivalry that dates back to the 1890s. While Rivals does dish on key historical moments over those many decades,...

Let’s dish! Which ‘Top Chef’ Season 17 elimination challenge most tickled your TV taste buds? [Poll]
What’s cooking? The Season 17 finale of “Top Chef,” that’s what. The finale arrives this Thursday, June 18, on Bravo as the three competing chefs left standing — Melissa King, Stephanie Cmar and Bryan Voltaggio — each prepare a four-course meal. They will be joined by eliminated chefs Lee Anne Wong, Brian Malarkey and Kevin Gillespie, who will each be paired with one of the three finalists as helpers as the season concludes in Italy –hence the episode title “Finito!”
But since these chefs were all All-Stars who participated on previous seasons but never won, the show seemed to demand more from this crop of 15 contestants. Many of the sometimes brutal elimination challenges that took place in Los Angeles were tied to notable landmarks, award-winning local chefs, scenic locales and popular eateries.

Stephanie Cmar can never catch a break on “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” — well, almost never. She has struggled to get out of the bottom during elimination challenges, and going into tonight’s Restaurant Wars she’s the likeliest to be eliminated with 17/5 odds, according to the combined predictions of fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. Do you agree?
Cmar started the season strong when she was on the winning team in “It’s Like They Never Left,” but then she plummeted to the bottom in “The Jonathan Gold Standard,” “Strokes of Genius,” “Bring Your Loved One to Work” and last week in “Pitch Perfect.” She was safe in “You’re So Fresh,” but even then she was on the losing team for that vegetarian challenge.

Going into Restaurant Wars tonight on “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.,” the two contestants to beat for the season 17 title are still Melissa King and Gregory Gourdet. But what about Kevin Gillespie, who has kept up with them challenge for challenge? Actually, he has outdone them challenge for challenge. In the first seven episodes of the Bravo competition series, he has won six times, more than any other chef.
King, Gourdet and Gillespie are so far the only chefs to win elimination challenges — they’ve each won three, with King and Gillespie sharing the honor in “Get Your Phil” and then Gourdet and Gillespie winning jointly in “Pitch Perfect.” But if you also count the quickfire challenges, Gillespie laps the field: he has won three of those preliminary challenges, more than anyone else. In fact, there has only been one episode out of seven where he hasn’t won one challenge or the other.

Stephanie Cmar will be the next cheftestant eliminated from “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” That’s according to the combined predictions of fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center going into week seven of the cooking competition. She has struggled for most of the season so far, but she has survived this long. Will she hold on for another challenge, or is her time finally up?
See‘Top Chef’ 17 spoilers: Who had to pack their knives and go on ‘All Stars L.A.’?
We’re giving Cmar 16/5 odds of packing her knives and going. She started well enough: in the season premiere, “It’s like They Never Left,” she was on the winning team with Jamie Lynch and Gregory Gourdet, with Gourdet named the winner of that challenge.
But it was downhill from there. She was one of the bottom chefs the next week in “The Jonathan...

One Brian has stood out on “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” as Malarkey’s super-sized personality and hit-and-miss results in the kitchen have gotten him a lot of attention — some of it even good. But what about Bryan Voltaggio? He came into the season as one of the front-runners, according to the combined predictions of fans we’ve surveyed here in our predictions center. But he’s not off to a great start in cooking challenges. Will his luck turn around?
The first three episodes of the season went pretty well for Voltaggio. He won the first quickfire challenge along with his teammates Joe Sasto, Jamie Lynch, Kevin Gillespie and Melissa King. And he had one of the top dishes in both “The Jonathan Gold Standard” and “Strokes of Genius.” But then he hit a rough patch.

Episode four of “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.,” “You’re So Fresh,” ended in a bit of a tussle between Brian Malarkey and Lee Anne Wong over who was to blame for a lack of seasoning on Wong’s plate. Luckily for both of them the judges liked Lisa Fernandes‘s dish even less and eliminated her instead, but we think Malarkey may be on his way out next.
As of this writing Malarkey gets leading odds of 16/5 of being eliminated from the show in episode five. That’s based on the combined predictions of “Top Chef” fans we’ve polled every week for their forecasts here in our predictions center. He does have a history of being hit-and-miss on the cooking show. When he previously competed in season three he had more bottom dishes than top dishes before being eliminated in fourth place.

Melissa King won the last two elimination challenges on “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.,” emerging victorious in “Strokes of Genius” and “You’re So Fresh.” As host and judge Tom Colicchio noted, that means she has already won half the challenges. So is she the chef to beat? More and more of the fans we’ve surveyed in our predictions center think so. Check out our odds here, and place your own bets this week and every week before Thursday night’s show.
Going into week three King was down in fifth place with 44/1 odds based on the combined predictions of fans. But after winning “Strokes” with a soup that the judges thought was Michelin-star quality she rose to second place with 9/2 odds. Now after winning “Fresh” with another outstanding soup dish she still ranks second, but her odds have improved to 18/5 as of this writing.

Three male cheftestants have been eliminated from “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” so far — Joe Sasto, Angelo Sosa and Jamie Lynch — but it looks like a woman will be on the chopping block in week four when the competitors have to make vegetarian dishes for the judges. That’s according to our racetrack odds, which are based on the combined forecasts of “Top Chef” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center.
As of this writing Lisa Fernandes gets leading odds of 37/10 of being eliminated. She previously competed on the show in season four, when she was a runner-up but landed at the bottom seven times in a row before the finale. She’s been doing alright in season 17, though, advancing safely through all three elimination challenges so far.

“It’s pretty frustrating to be out of the competition so early,” says “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” contestant Jamie Lynch about being eliminated in the episode “Strokes of Genius.” “I haven’t had a whole lot of success with chicken in this competition. I would love to be able to come out on top.” Lynch had a chance to get back into the game by competing on “Last Chance Kitchen” against Joe Sasto, still alive after winning last week’s “Last Chance” episode. So who came out on top this time? Watch the episode above.

The Sports Emmy Awards may not be the most obvious focal point for the future of television documentary production, but Tennis Channel contender “Strokes of Genius,” which commemorates the 10-year anniversary of a historic match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, provides an intriguing case study. A fast-paced retelling of the nearly five-hour 2006 showdown between the champions of the sport, it marks the first time that the network has produced a nonfiction feature in-house for wide release, with a serious Emmy campaign to boot. (Sports Emmy voting runs February 22 through March 8.) But it almost didn’t happen that way.
“We had a lot of outside interest,” said Tennis Channel president Ken Solomon in an interview at the U.S. Open, shortly after the documentary first aired last fall. “Obviously, people knew the story.” However, the decision to adapt L. Jon Wertheim’s 2009 book required access to reams of archival footage...

Following a screening of the documentary Strokes pf Genius, tennis icons and multiple Grand Slam champions John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova were at Deadline’s Awardsline Screening Series to speak to a packed house about the significance of the history-making Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal 2008 Wimbledon Final.
“I didn’t think it would be the best match I ever saw when it started,” said McEnroe.
The film deconstructs the ongoing rivalry of icons Federer and Nadal through the prism of their epic 2008 Wimbledon championship, considered by many to be the greatest match of all time. The documentary highlights the polar-opposite approaches — Federer’s regal calm and Nadal’s swashbuckling intensity — of two competitors who seem predestined to counterbalance each other in the tennis arena.
“It reminded me of my match when I played [Björn] Borg and got to the fifth set, McEnroe said. “I realized that was the only time I was on the court going,...

Swiss star Roger Federer and his Spanish rival Rafael Nadal have ruled men’s tennis for most of the 21st century thus far. But there was one epochal moment that proved to be a turning point in their competitive careers — and by “moment,” I mean the nearly five hours it took for Nadal to upset Federer at the Wimbeldon final in 2008 in what John McEnroe described as the greatest match in tennis history. The documentary “Strokes of Genius” premiered on the Tennis Channel on June 1, 2018, chronicling that match 10 years after the fact, when both Federer and Nadal are both still regularly winning grand slam tournaments.
At 4 hours and 48 minutes, not counting rain delays that stretched the game past sundown, it was the longest Wimbeldon final in the tournament’s history, long enough that “Strokes of Genius” has time to intercut the story of the match with interludes that tell us...
