Online physical media retailer Waxwork Records is releasing the score to “The Substance” on vinyl and digital.

Featuring original music from Benjamin Stefanski, better known by his recording alias Raffertie, the score from Coralie Fargeat’s body horror drama will be available Sept. 20 as a deluxe LP set. The album comes pressed to “Activator Green” colored vinyl and housed in a printed inner sleeve and heavyweight jacket wrapped in a custom printed kraft paper O-Card. The score will also be made available across all major digital platforms.

Stefanski is a classically trained musician who specializes in experimental electronic compositions. His composer credits include films like “One Way,” “Zone 414” and “Bull,” and TV shows such as, “99,” “The Continental,” “I May Destroy You” and “Top Gear.”

Simon West’s “Old Guy,” starring Christoph Waltz, Cooper Hoffman and Lucy Liu, will make its world premiere as the opening night film at this year’s Newport Beach Film Festival.

West and Waltz are expected to attend the screening on Oct. 17, kicking off the 25th edition of the Festival from Oct. 17-24. The Avenue will release “Old Guy” in the spring of 2025.

Waltz will receive the Icon Award at the screening in celebration of his storied career. He is a two-time Academy Award winner for his performances in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” and “Django Unchained.” His other credits include “Big Eyes,” “The French Dispatch,” “Horrible Bosses 2,” “No Time To Die,” “Spectre,” and “Water for Elephants.” His upcoming projects include “Dracula: A Love Tale” and “Frankenstein.”

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.

First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.

We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Lucy Liu (Strange World, Shazam! Fury of the Gods) and Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) have joined two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (No Time to Die, Big Eyes, Inglourious Basterds) in Old Guy, the upcoming action comedy from Simon West (The Expendables 2, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider).

West directs and produces the feature, which was written by Greg Johnson (The Son) and recently wrapped in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where it was filmed on location, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Highland Film Group is co-financing the action comedy and handling worldwide rights.

Paramount has recently debuted the trailer for the psychological thriller, The Infernal Machine. The new film comes from writer and director Andrew Hunt. The movie stars Guy Pearce as an author named Bruce Cogburn, who had written a famous controversial book called The Infernal Machine. Cogburn is a recluse, but he has recently been receiving cryptic letters from an obsessed fan of his work.

Cogburn starts to see connections between the cryptic letters and a past incident where a mass shooter cited his book as an inspiration for his massacre. He starts to feel the walls closing in as he investigates why the shooter had been motivated by his words, and he suspects the writer of the letters might also be behind it. Cogburn is aided by a police officer responding to his complaints of being stalked.

Matilda Lutz has replaced Hannah John Kamen in the lead of Millennium Media’s swords and sorcery comic book adaptation Red Sonja, which has begun production in Europe.

Lutz, whose credits include Neon’s Revenge, Paramount’s Zone 414 and Netflix’s Medici, will star as the mighty warrior from the Dynamite Entertainment comics after John Kamen stepped aside due to scheduling conflicts.

Millennium Media has begun filming on the long-gestating sword-and-sorcery feature Red Sonja, adapted from the comic book series and starring Matilda Lutz as Red Sonja.

The ensemble cast also includes Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan as Draygan, Michael Bisping as Hawk, Martyn Ford as General Karlak and Eliza Matengu as Amarak. M.J. Bassett will direct; Joey Soloway, who was initially set to helm the project, will get an executive producer credit.

Hannah John Kamen, who was to have played the lead role of Red Sonja, has stepped aside due to scheduling conflicts. The film is being produced initially at the Bulgarian Nu Boyana Studio, with additional shoots set for Greece.

Red Sonja is based on the comic book of the same name from Dynamite Entertainment.

Inspired by the sword and sorcery comic books of the same name by Dynamite Entertainment, Red Sonja is based on the heroine originally created for Marvel Comics by Robert E. Howard and subsequently adapted by Roy Thomas. Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” and Colm Bairéad “An Cailín Ciúin” lead nominations at the 2022 Irish Film and Television Academy Film and Drama award nominations with 10 nods across categories.

“Belfast” is nominated for best film, best director and script for Branagh, with a lead actor nod for Jude Hill, supporting actor recognitions for Ciarán Hinds and Jamie Dornan and a supporting actress nod for Caitríona Balfe, besides craft nominations.

After a year when home viewing, including major Premium VOD releases of films shortly after their theatrical debuts, the holiday results seem to take a back seat to the monster ones for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony) in theaters. And its success has bled over at home. Seven of the 30 slots on the three top 10 charts IndieWire tracks are taken by early “Spider-Man” entries.

We spoke about this fascinating project with this affable pair, talking about the dark themes being explored, and the dangers of technological advancements. The pair also speak about taking souvenirs from set, and we speak to Pearce about the forthcoming 25th anniversary of LA Confidential, and just how much that project means to him. Highland Film Group announced today the company has come aboard to handle worldwide sales for the new horror action thriller The Lair written, directed, and produced by Neil Marshall. Casting is currently underway with plans to start principal photography in Spring 2021. Highland Film Group will introduce the project to buyers at the upcoming virtual American Film Market.

Kevin Bacon is joining Travis Fimmel and Colson Baker, also known as recording artist Machine Gun Kelly, in the new action-thriller “One Way.”

Andrew Baird (“Zone 414”) is directing from a script by Ben Conway. Principal photography is set to begin in February in Los Angeles and Tulsa, Okla. Highland Film Group is handling worldwide sales at the upcoming American Film Market virtual market, which launches Nov. 9.

Bacon will portray the estranged father of Baker’s character, who goes on the run with a bag full of cash after a robbery of his former crime boss goes wrong. With a potentially fatal wound, he slips onto a bus headed into the unrelenting California desert. After a call for help, Bacon’s character betrays him by notifying the crime boss of his location.

“Kevin Bacon is one of the most talented and internationally recognizable actors of his generation,” said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser.
