Hey guys, just as a heads up the first episode is very American-centric with the stories being told. However, toward the middle chunk of episodes we do hear from other teams a lot more. Spain. Estonia, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and even Guatamala are given time on-screen and the perspective is a lot better balanced.
Early on though there's definitely a big American slant but seriously, stick it out, it's worth it!

While it's a bit of overload on the inspirational stories, in the end it's worth the watch just to see who makes it and who doesn't. I have to say I was more surprised by the teams that DID finish as compared to those who failed.
It is still one of the best competitions but they focused a lot on few teams and put aside the sporting event. They never showed general leaderboards nor did they show 50% of the top 10 teams. I could never know in which position the Colombian team arrived because they never showed them even in a single shot
I think the show is done very well , and shows a race that I , and many others had no idea existed. It shows teams from all over the world competing in this grueling and treacherous racing events. It is projected down into multiple stages and checkpoints. The race covers open ocean and jungle trekking as well as bicycle riding and hiking mountains and jungles. Many of these people have amazing stories and it is very nice to see a program that spotlights diversity and positivity. I see complaints about showing to much of the USA teams and not enough of others. Simple answer is that it is an American production and film crew. Therefore they spotlight them over others. I would have liked to see more of the others also but I think they do a fine job giving time to these other countries. Let's not forget logistically that this race covers vast areas which are very difficult to get film crews in and that they cannot be everywhere at once.
Bear Grylls, whom I am a big fan of Does a great job hosting the event and popping up in spots when the athletes are at there most tired which shines a light on how difficult this race really is. The athletes and teams must also build there rafts in certain areas of the race and trek all their gear with them as well. Very informative and fun to watch. Do not listen to reviews complaining about only seeing American teams. There's plenty of other countries and it's a breathe of fresh air. Well done Amazon !!!

I love Survivor, the Amazing Race, and Man v. Wild. In some ways I feel then this show was tailor made for me! Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, adventure focused reality TV shows have declined. In comes World's Toughest Race. If you enjoy any of the above shows, you'll find something to enjoy here. Exotic locations, high production value, unique teams and dynamics, and arduous tasks, this is a great show to satiate that reality TV show itch I've been craving these past few months.

The people stating the show focused only on American teams.... FALSE. They obviously did not watch every episode. I just binge watched ALL of the episodes. There are SO MANY teams from other countries that are well represented. The show allows you to get to know several different teams & their stories as to how/why they chose to compete in an Eco-Challenge. I went through many emotional ups & downs as I experienced the race with each team. The people are truly inspiring & possess a positive energy that is contagious. I couldn't stop watching! The physical & mental challenges that the participants overcome are truly amazing! I hope Amazon features future Eco-Challenges.

99% of the show was concentrated solely on the USA... Why? There were 62 other teams from around the world. UK was seen once for half a second in the last episode, totally wasted series, could of been a great and none bias.
If your American you will enjoy and probably give it 10stars. Due to the biased editing I gave it 6 stars.

Team Onyx, first all African American + LGBTQ team... however they were totally useless. Difficult to watch Americans being typically over dramatic. Should have been much much better. So over Woke America.
The racers are amazing and the race really is a testament to the human ability to preserver thru. A bit heavy on the backstories, but those are competitors they singled out pre-production I suppose. With 60 plus teams, need more exposure to the whole picture of what makes these athletes sign up and compete for such a race.
once the 1st place team would have liked more filler on how they did it, what was their strategy for the win. Also, small glimpses of the HQ support element would have been good gill on just what it took to get all the shots with the teams. I have to presume some of the camera crews had to up their athletic game just to keep up, that would have been more interesting than some of the filler backstories on why some athletes were racing.
Not much of anything on the prize or how significant this is in the overall world of endurance racing/adventures. What does it take to prepare, the cost associated with participating? Why does every team need to be co-ed? the series was fun to watch, but left more questions than answers in the end.
In the end looking forward to the next race, but hope for more coverage and a wider scope of the event from more team coverage, to the production of the race. I want to watch the sporting element of the race, the strategies, the leaderboards (as someone mentioned) for the event, not interested in each participants justification for why, but rather how they are racing.

To start with this show is super entertaining and is a lot of fun ... Fiji is just beautiful and the show displayed the island in a beautiful way. The camera work is amazing and the hosting by Bear Grylls is Good too.
All the challenges put forth seemed to be very demanding and it was interesting to see the participants conquer every task at their own pace and intellectual level. Any person who likes even a little bit of adventure will love watching this show. None of the episodes seemed boring however the last 3 episodes became a little less interesting as the winner of the race was announced on the 7th episode itself.
The only thing that i didn't like about the show is the amount of screen space that the American teams occupied. The backstories of certain teams were inspirational I agree but all the teams with an inspiring back story happened to be American and they ended up getting most of the screen time and to be honest, even certain American teams with not much of a backstory ended up getting more screen time than the other teams. The irony is that none of the American teams made it to the top 10 but despite the positions, all the American team got enough Screen time than any other. For example, there is a team called "The Able Abels" and this team quit in the middle of the race for no profound reason and still, you could see more of this team on the show than certain teams that made it to the top 10 and this is unfair. One could say that this is an American show and that's why the show was focused on the American teams but I would not agree because it doesn't make sense to invite teams from all around the world and keep focusing on the American teams just because the makers are Americans. If the makers wanted to display the American teams so badly then they might as well invited only the Americans to participate in the race.
having said this, The Worlds Toughest Race has every potential to become on the best adventure racing showers to be ever made and it all depends on if the makers are able to find a common ground from the next season and display teams irrespective of the country of origin in a fair manner. Looking forward to more of this show.

For the reviewers who said they don't care about who's dad, or son, or kids, etc, probably never watched the original shows. I did and it was interesting to see a number of original Ecochallenge racers still do adventure racing. I miss the original format that showed more of the actual arduous treks for competitors. This new version tends to only show clips of getting stuck in the mud, carrying bikes, sleeping in local school houses, etc. The original put watchers right in the middle of most of the action while this one is mostly narrated by the competitors. Yes most of the focus is on US teams, but that's probably because out of 66 teams, the US made up a third with 22 teams. Other countries only had between 1 to 6 teams. An initial intro episode would have been great to show the rules, the equipment, etc as that adds so much more of the struggles the competitors face that most watchers don't realize. In the beginning when the front American team wound up being almost last because one team member suffered heat stroke, they showed how when the team entered the hike into the jungle, they had to stop again for the ill teammate. Yet, they admitted they didn't bring water with them. If you have a team member suffering heat issues, why would you choose to not bring water? It's things like that which needed more of the backstory shared. I hope there will be more challenges, but I hope Mark Burnett takes the lead again and revert back to the original broadcast format used in years past.

Loved watching these strong, courageous, & resilient teams compete in the race. For me, it wasn't really about the "race," but more about the obstacles & adversities the participants faced to COMPLETE the challenge. The people were truly inspiring & I loved watching the teams dig deep down to find the strength to push on despite difficult circumstances. I hope Amazon features more Eco-Challenges in the future! Enjoyed every episode!!!

All I needed to see was the name Mark Burnett for my interest to be piqued. The legendary producer behind Survivor, Amazing Race and other shows has created another hit series!
The show is not necessarily about the race. The show may seem like it is about the rugged terrain, harsh landscape or unbearable climate, but it is an emotional story at heart. There are teams racing for the LGBTQIA+ community, people afflicted with Alzheimers and disabilities to prove that anyone can do this. I myself was inspired to see these emotional stories.
I love Bear Grylls as well. I have long thought he has an iconic voice and he provides an energy, a zest that adds to the exciting feel of the show. Grylls interacts with the contestants and motivates them to keep pushing, to dare to dream.
He talks to all of these different countries from all over the world. I felt as if I was watching the Olympics, seeing the variety of diversity onscreen. I was amazed by the camaraderie and friendships that began as well. The show is heartwarming as it focuses on relationships, which is more heartfelt during this time of social isolation.
I definitely suggest the show. The series is able to capture human grit and what it takes to survive. I do not want to test myself in that way, but I respect everyone that did so. Watch the show and experience Eco-Challenge Fiji!!!

Amazing how many people watch one episode and say too American focused. First it is an American TV program and there were more American teams than others. But as the season progressed we heard more about Spain, India, Estonia, The two Fiji teams, NZ, Costa Rica Australia, Aus.. etc. i will say I wish I had more about some other teams.. not that i didn't want to hear less about the ones we heard from.
Also some say it didn't focus on the race.. not sure what you want. you have to introduce the teams. i don't want to see an hour of a team hiking. but again I will caveat and say. yes maybe a but more... longer episodes would have worked vs more.
Fiji is beautiful... good compelling stories.. inspiration....and a good race.. though a final run down episode would have been cool.

I binge watched the whole thing, but nonetheless I only give it 3 stars.
I loved seeing the course that the competitors were competing on, and it was great to witness the trials and tribulations that many went through, as well as the back stories on team members. What I could have done without though was the "Mark Burnett"ing of it all wherein he made it mimic an episode of Surivor ---- the dramatic music, the giant gold medallions, the way the camera approached the tiki torches, the shots of Bear in the helicopter who tried to add a bunch of hype by the way he spoke .... the overall feel of the editing / finished product seemed to cheapen the actual experience; I would have preferred to have more of a documentary feel to it. Also, the number of episodes and the amount of time to watch was just way more than it should have taken. Doing this documentary style could have easily shaved off about 30% of the viewing time. If the Eco-Challenge continues in the future, I will watch it again only if it is NOT Mark Burnett who is the producer.

Incredible feats of endurance by the contestants, 10 stars for that. But the editing is one of the worst and most biased I've seen in the already pathetic genre of reality TV. They focused on about 10 teams out of 66 for most of the race, who had some back story they could endlessly bring up for emotional effect. They never even showed some of the top teams or their finish at the crossing line. Extremely disappointing editing, not worthy of this great race and it's contestants.

Great show! I loved seeing how beautiful Fiji is and I loved learning the stories of the individual racers. It's awesome to see people come together for a common purpose and overcome adversity. I can't wait for future seasons. I even feel inspired to participant in some Adventure Races myself!

I love the one who gives it 1 star for being too easy while he sits on his couch with a bag of Cheetos most likely knowing he couldn't make it thru the first leg. Oh, and then there's the ones who say there's too much airtime of our American teams then say two seconds later, "I only watched episode 1" lol. I'm into episode 6 right now and I can say Team New Zealand is dominant, Team USA made a wrong turn and is trying desperately to get back into the top five, team Australia is a favorite of mine since my wife is from Brisbane and they're doing well as well as team Spain, Canada, Estonia, etc. Too much USA you say? Doesn't seem like it to me whatsoever, but if you truly feel that way, get your own show. I love it and I have no illusions I could do this in my present condition. Hell, I just threw my back out walking to the refrigerator, so hats off to all the athletes in this competition. Especially that young kid whose name I forget right now. Oh, and the lady, Spencer, who does the team relations or whatever, is absolutely beautiful😬😂😂😂Show more of her and don't tell my wife lol!
