Caroline Duessel has been a long life fan of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. She was inspired by the BBC Sherlock adaptation, but she actually wrote the script before series four of the BBC show premiered.
Ken Bolden (John Watson) and Gregory Johnstone (Sherlock Holmes) are best friends in real life. Johnstone actually suggested that director Mina Hoffman audition Bolden for the role of John.
