The wellspring of creativity resides within the human mind. Amid the monotony of daily routines in a static world, people find solace in creativity and imagination. Within the confines of a mundane office setting, we all yearn for a room of our own, where the regular cacophony fades, and we can function attentively to bring out the best of our work. In this place, the hidden brilliance of an individual that gets lost in the crowd could thrive once again.
Drawing inspiration from Jonas Karlsson’s novel The Room, Joachim Back’s inaugural feature, Corner Office, explores a similar notion. It envisions a haven where reality’s limits disappear, letting people express themselves and their creativity. Unfortunately, only a few can create such a haven. Like the film’s main character, Orson (played by John Hamm), a typical office worker who excels only in his personal inner chamber at work...

Adapted from Swedish novelist Jonas Karlsson’s The Room, director Joachim Back’s Corner Office opens with Orson (Jon Hamm) arriving on the first day of his new job at The Authority. The company, housed in a monolithic, brutalist tower, is likely what the average person thinks of when they think of “Kafkaesque.” Whatever services its workers provide remains a complete mystery, and Orson, the consummate employee, adheres to a strict efficiency-maximizing routine and looks down on his co-workers, particularly his deskmate Rakesh (Danny Pudi), for what he takes to be laziness and incompetence. His stated desire to become “a person to be reckoned with” would seem to be out of joint with his subservience.
While hunting for office supplies, Orson stumbles across the titular office, seemingly unused. For him, this room represents the pinnacle of design, what with its precision layout, the abstract paintings adorning its wood-paneled walls, its lighting,...

Konami has re-released cult classic horror game Silent Hill 4: The Room on Gog for $9.99.
“Henry Townshend finds himself trapped in his apartment and the only escape is through a mysterious portal that leads to a horrifying alternate reality,” reads a description of the game on Gog’s website. “With gruesome sights around every corner and his sanity being tested, he must find his way out of this nightmare. Enter The Room, a thrilling story in the most terrifying game series of all time.”
The game’s description mentions basic features and plot points, but there are no references to any enhancements specific to this release. That would seem to suggest that this is merely a re-release of the original Silent Hill 4 PC port which hasn’t been available via digital marketplaces for quite some time.
That would make a lot of sense considering that Konami recently re-released the original...

Shudder, the streaming service focused on horror, thrillers and the supernatural, said Tuesday it has passed the 1 million subscriber mark.
AMC Networks launched Shudder in 2015. The company has pursued a niche streaming strategy, a contrast with larger media rivals launching mass-audience services like HBO Max, Peacock and Disney+. AMC executives have projected the company will end 2020 with close to 4 million total subscribers across Shudder and streaming siblings Acorn, Umc and Sundance Now.
Another of AMC Networks’ offerings, housed in a different part of the company, is AMC+. That subscription service, formerly called AMC Premiere, brings premieres of shows ahead of their linear TV airings, ad-free viewing and other bonuses to viewers on Comcast and Dish pay-tv systems.
Original programming is always the coin of the streaming realm, Shudder’s premiere of Creepshow last September prompted a surge in customer acquisition and engagement, the company said. A second season is in production.

The pleasure of those careful-what-you-wish-for “Twilight Zone” episodes and the riffs that followed is in watching the protagonists react realistically to an impossible situation. That’s not the case for the two leads of French director Christian Volckman’s English-language debut “The Room,” where Olga Kurylenko and Kevin Janssens defy all rational human behavior after discovering a room in their house can offer them any material thing they ask for. Including a human child. While the film suffers from a screenplay as delusional as its characters,
Childless couple Kate (Kurylenko) and Matt (Janssens) have moved from the big city to a gothic Victorian mansion in rural Maryland as dilapidated as Miss Havisham’s grotesque stomping grounds in “Great Expectations.” Paint’s peeling, wallpaper’s a mess, and the insides are covered in the rusty patina of decay. But they’re keen on repairing the house so Matt, a painter, can...

On an Atx panel for Room 104 today, co-creator Mark Duplass reflected on his journey with the series, while teasing details regarding its fourth season.
The anthology series centers on a seemingly unremarkable room in an American hotel, exploring the lives of an eclectic group of characters that pass through it. Shifting tonally from episode to episode, it’s covered everything from horror and thriller material to comedy, wrapping its third season last November.
“This is officially our last season, until everyone comes in and gives us huge numbers,” Duplass joked. “And then we’ll be back for another season.”
Joining Duplass on the live-streamed panel, moderated by Indiewire’s Steve Greene, were executive producers Mel Eslyn and Sydney Fleischmann, composer Julian Wass, along with actors Karan Soni and Natalie Morales, all of whom have now also served as directors on Room 104.

Found footage is the last trend that emerged from the J-horror genre, a category that (let’s face it) has been almost dead for a decade now. Occasionally though, some interesting productions do emerge. Let us see if “The Room” is one of them.

A big-city FBI agent retreats to the country in this bizarre, monumentally inept erotic thriller featuring a risible plot and jaw-droppingly bad acting
In 2003, self-financed La movie director Tommy Wiseau stunned audiences with his film The Room: a legendary cult jawdropper, whose making was immortalised in James Franco’s film The Disaster Artist. Many have asked whether there can ever be another to rival that?
More Beautiful for Having Been Broken is utterly bizarre. It’s like a daytime soap on Xanax, written, directed and acted in a kind of stilted near-coma – part emotional issue drama, part erotic gay drama-thriller. That title is a reference to the Japanese term kintsukuroi, the art of repairing broken pottery and appreciating repaired pottery – like treasuring people for their human flaws.

Cult film icon Tommy Wiseau is being forced to pay nearly $700,000 to the directors of “Room Full of Spoons,” an unauthorized documentary about Wiseau and the making of his infamous movie “The Room” (via Variety). Filmmakers Richard Harper, Fernando Forero McGrath, Mark Racicot, and Richard Towns planned to open “Room Full of Spoons” after the 2017 release of A24’s “The Disaster Artist” reignited interest in the cult filmmaker and “The Room.” Wiseau blocked the documentary’s release by filing a lawsuit in Toronto alleging the doc “violated his copyright by using clips from ‘The Room’ and invaded his privacy by revealing his origins in Poland, which he had been endeavoring to keep secret.”
Judge Paul Schabas of the Ontario Superior Court settled the case April 23 by siding with the “Room Full of Spoons” team. The judge cited “fair dealing” as the reason the directors could use clips from “The Room...

As much of America continues to self-quarantine, the propensity to go stir crazy increases with each passing day. Celebrities are no different: bored out of their minds while sitting at home indefinitely. Maybe they are ceaselessly launching Instagram Lives just for some human connection. Maybe they’re teasing us with some quarantine writing session. Most likely, they’re sitting in their very large homes, marathoning movies until their eyes glaze over. Relatable! Celebs Are Bored highlights the absurd, inane and mundane decisions made by people who have an unexpectedly large amount of free time.

It’s funny how circumstances of the world can alter our perception. On its face, The Room could be a by-the-book horror film like any other. However, in the time of Covid-19, when many of us are (pessimistically) prisoners in our own homes, a warped tale about being trapped seems to hit a little harder. And more effectively.
In The Room, a young couple seeks to start life anew in a remote country house. In the midst of their fixer-upper project, they discover a strange room that has the ability to grant wishes. What starts as shallow wishes for trinkets and extravagances takes a turn when the young wife wishes a baby boy into existence. As their circumstances become increasingly bizarre, the couple begins to wonder if the Room has trapped them forever.

Most modern remakes are greenlit because they’re based on profitable properties. Business-wise, that’s always made a lot of sense. But when it comes to keeping your audience happy, remakes are certainly risky endeavors. There’s a sentimental bond we form with great movies and games that not only makes it hard for us to imagine someone making them better but even makes us angry that someone would dare tread on our memories for the sake of profit.
It’s why there’s more of an appeal to remaking movies and games that were “bad.” There’s less of a chance of sentimental attachments getting in the way, and a new creative team might even be able to find a special something in that bad original that could be expanded upon and made better. Sadly, that’s often wishful thinking. Heads of major studios aren’t going to approve...

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally happening. The sequel you’ve all been waiting for. No, not Mad Max: Fury Road 2. I’m talking about The VelociPastor 2. And no, that isn’t a typo. I didn’t mean to write velociraptor. It’s VelociPastor, as in a dinosaur mixed with a man of the faith. Talk about an elevator pitch, right?
The director of the original, Brendan Steere, took to Twitter this week sharing a video of himself printing out a script for the sequel as an unofficial announcement. But how did we get here?
Well, apparently, there’s a movie known as The VelociPastor that was released in 2018. It was originally conceived back in 2010 and eventually made for a measly $35,000 thanks to a private investor. It then found its way to a festival in Portland, Oregon where it was bought by a company called Wild Eye.

"Who cares how it works, you just use it." Shudder has released one more official trailer for the indie sci-fi mystery titled The Room, not to be confused with Tommy Wiseau's The Room or the Brie Larson film titled just Room. The film won Best Feature at the Bucheon & Strasbourg Fantastic Film Festivals last year, and is finally arriving streaming on Shudder this month. Matt and Kate buy an isolated house. While moving, they discover a strange room that grants them an unlimited number of material wishes. But, since Kate has had two miscarriages, what she misses the most is a child. Of course, we all know that some wishes come with unexpected consequences. Another version of this "Monkey's Paw" story that was also turned into the film The Box not too long ago. The Room stars Olga Kurylenko and Kevin Janssens, with Joshua Wilson and John Flanders. This...

Another day, another reboot. While some remakes earn wide acclaim — the American version of “The Office,” “A Star is Born” — “Fantasy Island” did not. The Jeff Wadlow-directed movie is a 2 1/2-hour-long horror take on the 1970s ABC fantasy series, and it’s currently rocking a 9% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
When a movie this awful comes around, film writers often find themselves inspired to respond in kind. And here, the film did not disappoint.
Guys, Fantasy Island might just be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Oh my fucking god. I’m actually in shock.

Reviews point to a vibe of sheer desperation for viable IP that permeates the dull reboot and an inability for the movie to find its tone: Is it horror? Drama? Comedy?

Exclusive: Actress Zazie Beetz, best known for her roles in hits like FX’s Atlanta, Deadpool 2, and the Oscar-nominated film Joker, has signed on to narrate Breathe, an environmentally-driven augmented reality journey created by transdisciplinary artist and PhD sustainability scientist Diego Galafassi. Set to premiere Friday as an official selection in the New Frontier Category at the Sundance Film Festival, the narrative takes participants through the shared experience of reimagining our human relationship to the rest of the living world.
It details how with each inhalation we breathe the same particles we exhaled as a child, and we exhale particles that will be part of someone’s breath centuries from now.
“For Breathe, we looked for a presence and voice that would help participants contemplate how, in the air, our lives are linked to everything that is alive,” said director Diego Galafassi. “Like for many of us, Zazie and...

The first trailer for legendary rocker Glenn Danzig's directorial debut, Verotika has landed ahead of the film's release in February and it looks as mad as you hoped. Based on his own hit comics (also called Verotika), the film has gained something of a huge cult following since its premiere at Cinepocalypse in June, with some calling it the new The Room (and we think that's a compliment). Compiled as a horror anthology, Verotika takes us deep inside Danzig's own psyche with stories focused on horror content that's often sexual, violent and usually featuring scantily-clad female protagonists. Cleopatra Entertainmnet will release the film on VOD on February 25 with a Blu-ray release scheduled for March 3, 2020. Check out the trailer below:...

Glenn Danzig revels in murder, mayhem and some light Satanic ritual in the outrageous new trailer for the rocker’s directorial debut, Verotika.
The horror anthology, based on Danzig’s comic book series of the same name, is set to hit video-on-demand services February 25th, with a Blu-ray scheduled to arrive March 3rd.
Verotika premiered at Chicago’s Cinepocalypse last summer, and it was more-or-less praised for being so unabashedly over-the-top and gruesome, even eliciting comparisons to the so-bad-it’s-so-good cult classic, The Room. The new trailer boasts that pure horror camp vibe completely,...

Well, the decade is almost up, so right under the wire, I’m chiming in with my best of the decade post. Below you will see the ten movies I’ve chosen as the top cinematic efforts of the decade, along with a few bonus lists (minus commentary there). I won’t be going too in depth, since I’ve raved about everything here multiple times, but these all get my highest recommendations. Where possible, I’ve just quoted from the reviews already found here on the site. If you’re looking for something to put on as you get set to close out the year, these will do it! Here are my ten favorite films of the decade: 10. Blinded by the Light – I’ll just leave my initial reaction on social media from the first time I laid eyes on this one: “It doesn’t happen often, but every...

The latter will be at Netflix, which turned the long-gestating Dolemite project into a hit viewed by more than 40 million in its first two weeks. It’s the fifth movie collaboration between Murphy and producer John Davis — along with Doctor Dolittle and its sequel, Daddy Day Care, and the outrageous Norbit, in which Murphy played dual roles. Here, they talk about a long collaborative relationship.

Tommy Wiseau and “The Room” are an unending source of internet humor, and with “Star Wars”-mania back in full force with “The Mandalorian” and “The Rise of Skywalker,” one clever YouTuber has found a way to send Wiseau to a galaxy far, far away.
On Sunday, YouTube movie mashup artist PistolShrimps released a 20-minute short film called “Tommy Wiseau in Star Wars: The Saga.” The project was first conceived in 2017 with a short clip released by PistolShrimps as a gag. But after much fan demand, he’s brought it back as a full short.
