I always look forward to anything by Julia Davis, I guess a problem for her is that what was once extremely edgy in 'Nighty Night' is now almost mainstream. So many of her ideas have been subsumed into many sitcoms since, not to mention many of the performers she has worked with. However, whilst this revisits many of her motifs, it pushes the boat out on explicitness. What was once cringeworthy is now more jaw dropping. She has a knack for taking characters we all have actually encountered and pushing them over the edge. Excruciatingly funny, and terrifying at the same time, can't wait to see where this goes.

This is hilarious! How have I never heard of it?! I subbed to HBO on Amazon Prime and found it. British comedy at it's finest. I laughed quite a bit.

I saw the title, and thought to myself, what could this be about, so I tuned in, watched the1st episode and my mouth remained opened for most of the show, this was not expected, bu I enjoyed it, it wa soo shocking and hillarioust the same time.

I really don't understand why people are getting upset by this series. If they don't know what Julia Davis is all about then they should do some research first and stick to their linear comedies and soaps.

This is a portrayal of a woman's midlife crisis going horribly wrong but in a hilarious fashion. Julia always likes to go way beyond the boundaries and that is what black comedies are all about. Julia does it so well and really you need to just accept the dark and shocking humour or just don't watch it if you are easily offended. It's as simple as that!

I thought it was brilliant. Julia Davis is back with a bang and even more shocking! Much to the pleasure or displeasure of many regular Sky viewers newly drawn into Julia Davis' absurd world.

There are many reviews on here talking about the first and second episodes being too weird or dull or uneven. But you need to get through those to understand the tone, and then everything works. It's completely disgusting, embarrassing, awkward, dirty, sexual, and writhing just as you would expect from Julia Davis. Maybe some people will find it too much, but it's maybe too much because we aren't used to seeing women doing this sort of comedy. I mean, come on, who has seen This is The End...? Once you can re-program yourself from your usual frames of reference, it all makes sense. Anyone who saw Nighty Night will recognise Emma as a sort of reincarnation of Jill, but the US audience would probably not understand that show because it had a lot of nods to English regional stuff, so I can see why this one has been sort of broadened for that. Emma is gross and terrible, but honestly Sally is not much better, she's dull and naive and ordinary with no skills. Nice to see "Lovely April" from Peepshow as Sally, and Alex McQueen is revolting as David. The lesbian slant is completely disrespectful at the same time as driving the ideas of being gay and proud and accepted right out in the open. It's very clever, nothing is a sacred cow. I'm on episode five now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the gross relationship between Dan and Emma. Don't watch it if you are easily offended, all the more for me. A brave and brilliant thing, just don't judge it. No moral fiber here. Don't expect any.

I really like this show, but the 3rd episode was trite and boring and I wondered if I would watch it again/ But here I am watching the next episode and I'm just sitting here thinking ... what the eff am I watching. Seriously, what is this? I don't even know how to review this. It's just ... TF? What is the point of this, and why does anyone think I need this in my life?

I think Julia Davis is brilliant but having just finished watching Sally4Ever I'm not so sure it was a good idea. Admittedly I couldn't tear myself away but perhaps I was just watching to see what outlandish thing was going to come up next. She doesn't disappoint on that front but I didn't feel myself caring about any of the characters. Perhaps that was the point: an antidote to the saccharin comedy of the U. S. If you like your comedy raw, want to feel uncomfortable and see a show that pushes all boundaries then this is most definitely for you. If you're seeing a therapist already, you'll need to keep that up! Sally4Ever really is warped, Julia Davis is that brilliant that I wanted to lock her up myself so she wouldn't damage anyone else. She portrays a manipulative narcissist so well. I kind of wish I hadn't seen it though as I may not sleep tonight.

Not funny, not intelligent, not interesting, not even nice to look at, so what is it? Repulsive, yes. That it is. As a principle, it seems.

Characters are exaggerated to the point of ridicule, all of them, yet it is not a parody. It is not saying anything either but it gets people talking. Yes, that's the point. This is pushing people's buttons, generating attention, being obnoxious just so more people come to see what the fuss is all about.

There you have it.This is just bait by design.

Julia Davis, queen of black comedy, queen of cringe and discomfort.

If you liked Nighty Night, Camping etc, you will not be disappointed. Her portrayal of sociopathic narcissistic obsessive women is second to none.

I like a show that makes me reel with embarrassment and turn my feet into scrunched up dead spiders. If you do too, watch it!

Some parts have had me laughing hysterically. Others make me roll my eyes.

Julia Davis is back with a bang, literally. And a lesbian one too.

This has all the ingredients we have have come to know and love from this challenging and talented British writer. It has all the usual knuckle-clenching and wince-inducing moments that Julia Davis and her fan base revel in, plus the obligatory dance scenes, of course.

Plotting the lack-lustre relationship of Sally through a personal journey, one episode in and I'm already hooked.

Even for Julia Davis, this pushes the boundaries. A guaranteed conversation piece.

First episode is reasonably funny but I can barely get through the second episode. The characters aren't funny but highly irritating. Sally is a boring pushover, her new "friend" is a narcissist, her fiancé is a full on loser.

Excellent black comedy. So dark at times but always a winner for me and my husband. I couldn't miss this. At times I needed to shrink into my seat or cover my eyes while screeching laughing. Excellent material as always by this writer/actress. More to come I hope!!!

I'm glad some people don't understand this type of comedy as it confirms the fact that this type of comedy is not for the stupid masses who can't understand the hidden meanings and sociological/psychological research behind the characters and situations presented in Julia Davis's comedies. I remember reading an 80 year old viewer's comments on Julia's Camping who stated that initially, watching Camping, was like watching a real life documentary. The events were so uncomfortable and real that made one eventually laugh because one would be so happy to have shorlty met people similar to those depicted in the comedy and luckily not having anything in common. We have all encountered similar people at some point or other in our lives. Watching them in Julia's comedies is a constant reminder of how ridiculous and extreme some people and situations can be. Not many in the comedy world have got the guts to expose stupidity in such a dark, comedic and realistic way. Julia's comedies are definitely not aimed at those people who find "You've been framed" or shallow American comedies funny. Well done Julia, keep Gill coming back 😘

My favourite genre is comedy and I'm open to all sorts but this is just painful!! There is the odd one liner that brings a smile but on the whole it just doesn't work! A comedy that isn't funny is not a comedy!!!!

Looking at some of the other reviews here, they obviously do not know Julia Davies sense of humour. If you want high brow look elsewhere. Only seen episode one so far, but thought it was hilarious and reminded me why I loved Nighty Night so much.

Astonishing, mind-numbing, dismal juvenile attempt at 'comedy' - . Non-dimensional 'character-fail force-injected in a poorly scripted non-event of a soft-core lesbian soap opera invoking carrier bag full of now passé risqué troupes depicting the entrapment and sexual-emotional rape of a pathetic insecure woman by a predatory 'lesbian'.

Either you don't get a British sense of humor, also known as a sense of humor, or you're a meathead, dead from the neck up. This is a gem. Perhaps not tailored to everyone's palate, also known as everyone's tastebuds, this show takes it on and shoves it right back. Like it or not.

Not-at-all-subtle invective against men, with a 1-D caricature of a man (painfully-acted-and-written as cartoonishly pathetic as possible) justifying his wife's "exciting" venture into lesbianism. Very forced and obvious attempt at comedy is in fact downright insulting to the intelligence.

Anyone who thinks this is no good should stick to Friends.

The characters in this comedy are just as diabolical as any that the great Tom Sharpe, or perhaps Evelyn Waugh ever characterised, and in just half a series so far these have been developed in to monsters. That's the beauty of Sally4Ever, Julia Davies picks a bad character trait and magnifies it a thousand times, but without making it completely infeasible...nearly, but not quite. Brilliant.

....and downhill from there. In episode two it's the conceptual same jokes over and over again. The three main characters are a profoundly pathetic total loser, a malignant nasty narcissist who sinks lower and lower....and a "heroine" who doesn't know her own mind and is evidently experiencing orgasms for the first time. This is supposed to be primarily a comedy, but none of the protagonists are very likable....what they are is pathetic at best.

Having said all of that, it will likely be a hit as the flashes of lesbian sexuality may attract an audience who will have a misanthropic pretext to enjoy the soft core porn. Evidently this is what lots of folks pay their HBO subscriptions to see. If that's you, enJOY!!!

A Very funny, seriously cringeworthy, no holds barred look at just how awful people can be to get what they want in life and I loved it !

As with all the best TV this will seriously divide viewers.

It doesn't just push the barriers but packs them up in the van and sends them back to the warehouse.

Julia Davies is a wonder.
