Marcus Hysmith's character is named Jack Porter after one of the director's friends who was also an associate producer on the project.
There is a poster for an album from a fictional band called Taco Hat hanging in Chuck's apartment. This is an homage to the director's failed band of the same name that he and a friend attempted to start in high school.
In early drafts of the script Dennis was written as an actual living cat. During pre-production it was decided that the logistics of finding a trained cat on a low budget would prove difficult and it was suggested that Dennis should instead be a taxidermy cat.
