At first bite, Cookie Monster seems like a harmless creature whose only flaw is acting on the needs of his stomach over the recommendations of his brain. In reality, this is a battle-hardened veteran who is set to play a bigger role in one of the media industry’s most intense brawls.
The furry, azure creature, known for his time on “Sesame Street” and even in a commercial for Apple, will soon boost WarnerMedia’s efforts to win new fans of its kids programming, and to keep those who already have a connection from breaking it. WarnerMedia and Sesame Workshop, currently in the middle of a pact that lasts through 2025, are expanding the work the educational-programming company will do for the media giant. Cookie Monster, Elmo and Abby Cadabby will appear as robot heroes in the new series “Sesame Street Mecha Builders,” which aims to burnish older preschoolers’ thinking about science and technology,...

The drama revolving around the making of Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1972 erotic film Last Tango in Paris will be the subject of a new limited series from Entourage and Boston Public writers Jeremy Miller and Daniel Cohn. Part of the first-look agreement between CBS Studios and Stampede Ventures, Tango will span the 18 months before, during, and after the film’s production. The story will be told through the lens of the film’s stars, Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider, as well as Bertolucci, and is said to explore themes of identity, fame, and artistic ambition. Controversy surrounds the film for its inclusion of a rape scene, which Schneider later claimed was not consensual and not in the original script. “I felt humiliated, and to be honest, I felt a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci,” Schneider told the Daily Mail in 2007. The series, set in Italy, France, and the U.

Is “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30 JoJo Siwa‘s to lose? The singer has been the favorite all season long, but as we’ve seen the past few seasons, that’s been more of a curse than a blessing. Siwa, Amanda Kloots, Cody Rigsby and Iman Shumpert will hit the hardwood one last time on Monday’s season finale for Mirrorball glory. They will perform twice, a fusion dance of two styles, and the freestyle, of course.
Who will win? Let’s break down the final four.
Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten
For her: Consistency. Kloots has never been bad nor has she had a terribly off week. Hard not to feel like her past as a Broadway dancer and Rockette, performing day in and day out, isn’t a factor in that consistency even if the dance styles are completely different. And she just gave one of her best...

Monday’s semifinals broadcast of Dancing With the Stars was all about the number two.
Not only was the episode — remarkably! — already the second-to-last outing of Season 30, but it featured two routines from each remaining duo, then wrapped with one last double elimination. (Two is also the number of Kleenex boxes you might have burned through while watching this episode. Everywhere you looked, another sob-worthy contemporary!)

The music of Janet Jackson served as Dancing With the Stars‘ soundtrack on Monday night… but by the time the broadcast ended, four dancers had been booted from Rhythm Nation.
With only three weeks left in Season 30 — and whoa, how’d that happen so fast? — six couples advanced to next week’s semifinals, while two duos ended their pursuit of the Mirrorball for good. But before we get to that double elimination, let’s revisit Monday’s performances, which yielded perhaps too many perfect scores, no?

ABC had some pixie dust to spare this week — and a hole to fill in its Tuesday-night schedule! — resulting in a double dose of Disney on Dancing With the Stars.
Whereas Monday’s broadcast featured the dances of Disney heroes (read recap), Tuesday’s episode was all about Disney villains. And in a truly wicked twist, Dancing ended the show with a double elimination, counteracting Monday’s joyous announcement that no one would be going home on Heroes Night. For the last two weeks YouTube views have been a decent (though not entirely consistent) barometer for who winds up in the bottom two on “Dancing with the Stars” each week; half of the show’s results are determined by viewers voting at home, so popularity is just as crucial as dance quality. If that continues as we head into the upcoming two-night Disney heroes and villains event, could that spell trouble for country star Jimmie Allen and “The Office” actress Melora Hardin? Scroll down for the complete YouTube rankings following “Britney Night,” with viewership stats taken Friday afternoon.

On “Britney Night,” when “Dancing with the Stars” contestants performed to the music of Britney Spears, almost all of the male dancers scored lower from the judges than almost all the female dancers. That’s been the case all season so far. But when we asked our readers who they thought gave the best performance of the night, many of them thought the judges gave at least a couple of dudes a raw deal. Scroll down for our complete poll results.

Cody Rigsby may not have performed to “Circus” during Dancing With the Stars‘ Britney Spears Night, but that whole “all eyes on me in the center of the ring” thing? It definitely applied.
After testing positive for Covid-19 days after his partner, Cheryl Burke, contracted the virus, Cody still remained in the competition for Monday’s performance show, dancing a jazz number remotely (and separately from Cheryl) to Spears’ “Gimme More.” And though we’ve all gotten used to virtual backup plans during the pandemic, the thought of Cody and Cheryl dancing live from different homes — on different coasts! — was a tad nerve-racking.

It’s time to work, bitch. Because it’s Britney Night on “Dancing with the Stars.” Monday’s Week 3 show will be the first time “Dancing” has devoted a night to Britney Spears — also fittingly less than a week after her father Jamie Spears was suspended as her conservator — but it will also go down in the record books with the first dual remote performance in the show’s history.

The first episode of Dancing With the Stars‘ milestone 30th season is in the books, and it’s left me with one very pressing question: How was everybody so freakin’ good?

Carlos Saura, Vittorio Storaro’s ‘The King of All the World’ Closes France With Eurozoom (Exclusive)
Paris-based Eurozoom has snapped up French distribution rights to “The King of All the World,” a musical drama directed by “Carmen’s” Carlos Saura and lit by “Apocalypse Now” cinematographer Vittorio Storaro.
The deal follows on a private screening of “The King…” by sales agent Latido Films, held for European distributors in a Madrid cinema theater. Eurozoom plans a theatrical release for “The King…,” Saura’s first fiction drama since 1998’s Oscar-nominated “Tango,” at 100 locations in France.
Having held back from showing “The King…” at the Pre-Cannes Screenings, Latido will introduce the musical to more buyers at its cinema theater market premiere at Cannes.
“This is a film to be enjoyed on a big screen, and then re-thought on a smaller one. But first in cinema,” said Latido Films CEO Antonio Saura.

South and West Asian films make up the entirety of this years Brooklyn Film Festival’s (Bff) Asian film line-up. As with the rest of their programme, the festival has a good mix of movies. Of the features spanning from Turkey to Syria to Nepal, some are East Coast premieres; some US; some even world. While the standard Asia-based narratives persist, the festival also leans into modern-day trends to feature more diaspora narratives. Notably, of these entries, almost half of them (3 out of 7) highlight Muslim or Islam-influenced narratives.
Earlier this week, the Brooklyn Film Festival announced the film lineup for its 24th edition, “The Clearing.” The 2021 edition will feature 36 World Premieres, 28 USA bows, 34 east coast debuts, and 25 first-time screenings in NY. The masterful Spanish director has once again teamed up with Vittorio Storaro to add a little extra sparkle to his latest project, filmed in Mexico and now in the home stretch of postproduction. We can hardly say that Carlos Saura is back, because he never really went away. At 89, it’s still rare to see this indefatigable filmmaker, illustrator and photographer without a camera around his neck. His new musical project has been marinating for a good while, and now, finally, The King of the Whole World is almost ready to hit the screen. Shot in Guadalajara and Jalisco (Mexico) in 2019, the film boasts a three-time Oscar winner, Vittorio Storaro, as director of photography. It’s not the first collaboration for this legendary dream team: Storaro has worked with Aragon-born Saura on no less than six previous projects, including Goya in Bordeaux, Tango and Flamenco, flamenco. Once again, dance, music.
After three weeks of “Dancing with the Stars” season 29, teenage Disney Channel star Skai Jackson has had a topsy-turvy run with the judges, topping the leaderboard in the season premiere, getting the lowest score in week two, and then receiving one of the lower scores on “Disney Night” as well. But if her road has been a little rocky on the dance floor thus far, you wouldn’t know it from her popularity online. She has generated by far the most YouTube views of any dancer in the competition. Scroll down to see how the celebs’ video totals stack up as of this writing (the numbers go up by the minute).

Even before “Dancing with the Stars” began its 29th season, figure skater Johnny Weir seemed like a natural front-runner, but it took him a while to find his footing in the ballroom. He finally had a breakthrough on “Disney Night,” though, going from the middle of the pack to the top of the judges’ leaderboard. Watch his game-changing rumba above.
Weir has a lot to live up to. He’s an Olympic figure skater like three previous Mirror Ball champions: Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis and Adam Rippon. Nev Schulman and Johnny Weir each earned a score of 24 for their performances, putting them above previous leaderboard leader Kaitlyn Bristowe, who landed a 23 for her Moana dance. Nev expertly channeled Captain Jack Sparrow for his Argentine Tango and...

If you’re tuning in to ABC on Monday to catch “Dancing with the Stars,” prepare to be disappointed. As previously announced, “Dancing with the Stars” is not airing on Monday, Sept. 21 and will instead air on Tuesday, Sept. 22 because of football.
ABC and ESPN are simulcasting the “Monday Night Football” game between the New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders on the 50th anniversary of the very first “Mnf” game, which saw the Cleveland Browns defeat the New York Jets. This will be the first “Mnf” game broadcast on ABC since the 2005 season.
See ‘Dancing with the Stars’: Here are the Week 2 dances
So that means “Dancing” will shuffle its feet to Tuesday for this week only. This shouldn’t be too big of an adjustment since the results show used to air on Tuesdays. The extra day will give all 15 couples more time to perfect their second...

Did we call it or did we call it? Carole Baskin will hit the floor for her second dance on “Dancing with the Stars” to yet another kitty-themed song: “What’s New Pussycat” by Tom Jones. Tptb can’t stop, won’t stop.
The “Tiger King” star and Pasha Pashkov have the Viennese waltz, which might be slow enough to help them improve on their score of 11 for their paso doble on the premiere. The Viennese waltz is one of seven dances on deck for Week 2 — foxtrot, samba, tango, rumba, cha-cha and jive being the others.
Busting out the tough samba and rumba this early feels wrong, but Skai Jackson has the former and Justina Machado has the latter. They topped the leaderboard Week 1, each with a 21, and all signs so far point to them being able to handle whatever Alan Bersten and Sasha Farber, respectively, throw at them. Chrishell Stause also has the rumba,...

To celebrate, the songwriter (who now records under the name Yusuf) has re-recorded the entire album with original producer Paul Samwell-Smith and original guitarist Alun Davies. He’s called it Tea for the Tillerman² and it comes out on September 18th, but you can hear the new version of “Where Do the Children Play?” right here.

Nathan Davis and Essie Davis in Palm Springs.
The creators of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears were always confident the movie would appeal to the legion of Essie Davis’ Phryne Fisher fans, but what about those who have never seen the TV series?
Any doubts soon vanished during the world premiere of the 1929-set adventure-murder mystery-romance, the first of three sold-out screenings at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Director Tony Tilse likened the atmosphere to a rock concert as 865 people whooped, hollered and laughed and gave a standing ovation at the end.
“People who had never seen the TV series told me how much they enjoyed it,” Tilse, who was set-up director on the series, tells If. “The enthusiasm and love for the film was overwhelming and very humbling.”

The inaugural season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK” came to an end on Thursday with the 3 finalists queens showing which of them had the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to be crowned the UK’s first drag race superstar. The artists still in the running are Baga Chipz, Divina de Campo, and The Vivienne. In last week’s seventh episode RuPaul Charles awarded Divina with her third challenge win of the season, bringing her even with Baga and Viv who also had three of their own. Baga, however, was in the bottom two and had to lip synch for her life for the first time this season against Cheryl Hole, who sent sent home after their two strong performances on the stage.
After Cheryl’s elimination, the top three were in high spirits as finalists together, acknowledging that the three of them were the best of the competition. For Divina,...

Hey, "Dancing With The Stars" fans. Tonight, November 25, 2019, another performances/results show did indeed air. All the judges: Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba were back to give their critiques. There were no guest judges tonight. So, we were back to just three judges. Also, tonight, was the semifinals round, which means we only had four couples dancing tonight for another two rounds. The first round was called a Redemption round because the couples performed a dance that they didn't do so well the first time around to see if they could do it better this time. Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko kicked off the performances with a Paso Doble routine. They were mentored by Len during rehearsals. Their paso doble was to the song, "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Afterwards, Len told Lauren, "It had a lovely mix of aggression and expression. I wanted to see even more paso choreography,...

The “Dancing with the Stars” Semi-Finals decided who advanced to the finale for a chance at the Mirror Ball Trophy, but they were also an opportunity for redemption as the remaining celebs tackled dances that tripped them up earlier this season. So who rose to the top? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
The first round of the Semi-Finals was the redemption round, during which the celebs took another crack at a previous dance style with additional tutelage from the judges: paso doble for Lauren Alaina, Viennese waltz for Ally Brooke, rumba for Hannah Brown, tango for Kel Mitchell and cha cha for James Van Der Beek.

It’s the semifinal on “Dancing with the Stars,” and for the first time in five weeks, there will be someone other than Sean Spicer at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Which unlucky soul will it be? The final five are all pretty great dancers, and all of them have topped the leaderboard at some point this season, so expect some tight scores on Monday.
There will be two rounds: one redemption dance and one unlearned dance.
Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko: paso doble and Viennese waltz
Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber: Viennese waltz and Charleston
Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten: rumba and contemporary
Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson: tango and contemporary
James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater: cha-cha and foxtrot
See Here’s the tweet Trump deleted after Sean Spicer was eliminated on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
So Brown finally gets her wish to do a contemporary.

IFC Films has acquired the North American rights to the Beanie Feldstein-led comedy “How To Build A Girl.”
The movie, which is directed by Coky Giedroyć, is based on the best-selling autobiographical novel by Caitlin Moran. Hey, "Dancing With The Stars" fans. Tonight, October 28, 2019, another Live performances/results show did indeed air. Bruno said, "I love how you re-imagined a cult classic and made it original and imaginative and a Halloween treat." Carrie Ann said, "It was incredible, tentative at first, but then it was so tight and...

Hey, "Dancing With The Star" fans. Tonight, September 30, 2019, another results/performance show did indeed air. All the judges: Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba were, of course, on hand to give their constructive criticisms and scores. They revealed that contestant Ray Lewis and his pro dance partner Cheryl Burke were out of the competition because Ray got injured. Apparently, he tore a lot of tendons in his foot, and the doctor said they could rupture if he kept dancing. He will also need to get surgery on his foot. So, that was a tough break for him. Tonight's performances kicked off with Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko. They danced a Tango to the song, “Pretty Woman.” Afterwards,Len told Lauren, "It was full of attack, drive and purpose, but a little bit stop-and-start at times." Bruno said, "It was a racy, full-throttle tango, and some of the lines were very good,...

Happy birthday to Stevie Nicks’ best song ever, “Ooh My Love.” It’s a buried treasure in her legendary career — never a hit, not even a single. She’s never sung it live. Just a deep cut from her most tragically underrated solo album, The Other Side of the Mirror, released 30 years ago, in the last days of May 1989. The album fell through the cracks — nobody was really checking for solo Stevie in the late Eighties. But it’s prized by hardcore Stevie freaks, especially “Ooh My Love.” For some of us,...
