Pure Bliss.
2 of my favorite things on the whole planet... are anime, and music. If your ever looking for an absolutely perfect blend of the 2.... Carole And Tuesday might just be one of the best anime to come out in years.
Shinchiro Watanabe had a huge part to do with this show, as he was the supervising director. Although quite subtle in some areas, you can definitely see the Watanabe style throughout the show, from the direction. The editing of characters movements, and even some of the hairstyles are easily Watanabe styled.
Carole and Tuesday is unbelievable in more ways then just having one of my favorite OST's in anime ever. The animation is absolutely stunning, which is a stupendously important thing to get right, especially when animating mouths when singing, and hands when playing instruments like piano and guitar. Although sometimes the vocals being sung don't perfectly match the characters mouth's it's not distracting whatsoever because your so unbelievably invested in the music.
Let's get the score out of the way right now. Carole and Tuesday easily has one of the most heartfelt and truly beautiful scores in all of anime. It helps that our 2 main protagonist's have completely angelic vocals and delivery in the songs that they sing. Carole And Tuesday perfectly captures my thoughts on music as a whole, and even the music industry today. Carole And Tuesday's songs are easily the greatest part of the show. Some of my favorite lyrics in really any duet performed in anything ever. Carole and Tuesday's OST is of course brilliant and stands out from any other anime in the last couple years, just from it's uniqueness alone. But when the characters Carole And Tuesday perform together, it is just as exciting and wonderful as any action sequence, or drama filled moment from an anime. In fact in some ways I'd say there songs that they perform are even better than those things. Whenever they sung together, they always had my full attention. I could hardly even blink while watching these scenes because I was worried I'd miss a beautiful movement of animation. Carole and Tuesday's vocals are only defined by one word for me... and that's angelic. The voices are so different and unique, yet they work together so perfectly. Not only is every song well written, and performed, but almost every performance of theirs in the show brought me to tears.
Since the whole show is based around music, Carole And Tuesday arent the only ones who perform their music. The show has multiple artists, who all have wonderfully written and performed songs, that really elevate every element of the show. The music in this series is just fantastic, never a single dull moment from anyone here, truly mesmerizing. And I truly hope you give your full attention to Carole And Tuesday whenever they perform, let their songs touch you, and I promise they'll hit hard.
But an OST alone doesn't completely carry a show... but in this case is doesn't need to. Because Carole and Tuesday are just stupidly loveable. Carole is such a well written character, and I'm sure anyone who's had similar experiences to her will be able to get insanely invested in her character. She's so fantastically realized, and really keeps the show fresh and fun. And then there's Tuesday. Tuesday and Carole, are 2 totally different characters, yet they have a bond together that is undescribable. Leave it to Watanabe to make 2 crazily different characters, have one of the most emotionally investing relationships in anime. Tuesday is just perfect, her character has flaws of course, yet she's just so loveable, and selfless. She's truly a character that I could relate to completely, and both Carole and Tuesday's have become some of my favorite characters in anime of recent years!!! They have more chemistry than any real 2 people have when singing together in real life. I feel like an Anime is a perfect way to do a story like this because it is hard to express with "real life" emotions. Carole and Tuesday are fantastic, and so is there supporting cast.
Everyone in this show grows on you. Even characters you might really dislike, you end up smiling when you see them on screen... which is really saying something. Roddy and Gus are especially charming and by the end of the show I really ended up loving both their characters. The supporting cast is wonderful, but even so Carole And Tuesday carry the show completely on their shoulders.
Carole and Tuesday like I said perfectly captures my feelings on modern music, which is something I never expected. A lot of the music throughout the show is said to be created with complete AI. Which is basically meaning nothing is ever done by solely the artists alone, and everything is done by computers. Basically it shows that anyone with the right technology could make music. But when the music isn't written by the person who performs it, or even when the person singing has so much help from artificial means that they truly wouldn't be anything without it... their music feels soulless.
So in a world where everyone surrounding them uses AI or Artificial means to create their music and probably wouldn't be any good without it... you have 2 girls, Carole And Tuesday, who write and perform their own songs on their own, without needing any help from artificial means. No auto tune, no separate band... just 2 girls one playing the piano, one playing guitar, and them both singing. There's something undeniably beautiful about the way Carole and Tuesday make their music, and I think it's definitely an important message to take with you even after the curtain rolls.
The only real issue I have with the show revolves around a single character, and really isn't much when looking at the show as a whole, but I still thought I'd mention it. The "antagonist" of sorts to the show Angela, was really quite irritating. And I understand that being the point with an antagonist but for me at least, she took up a whole lot more time than she needed to within the show. And even by the end I still wasn't totally invested in her character. She's certainly an antagonist so it makes sense that she's unlikable, but I just found that every time she was on screen I couldn't help but wish to see Carole and Tuesday again, because quite frankly I really disliked her character, and the way in which her music is made. But in the end, one character that I didnt necessarily love, and even slightly began to tolerate doesnt bring down such a powerful show.
Carole and Tuesday isn't just an Anime about music... it's a beautifully written story about 2 girls and their journey with music in a world where everyone seems to be doing things differently than them. Carole and Tuesday is amazing. The music is unbelievably, and insanely touching. The vocal performances in the Dubbed version of the show are 2 of my favorites ever. Carole and Tuesday has a brilliant message, and it's one I won't forget any time soon. This show is something else... and I enjoyed it more than I ever could have imagined I would.

In one of their songs they sing elegantly "There's nothing wrong with Happy Endings", and I have to say I agree wholeheartedly.
