"Daffodils is a universally resonant love story that is also uniquely Kiwi and driven by the songs New Zealanders grew up with. It's so great that the filmmakers will get to share this story with audiences soon," said Annabelle Sheehan, then New Zealand Film Commission CEO.
This film from New Zealand is based on a true story and is also based on the much loved and critically acclaimed Kiwi stage play of the same 'Daffodils' name.
The film's soundtrack includes songs by such New Zealand artists and bands as Crowded House, LIPS, Bic Runga, Chris Knox, The Mint Chicks, Dave Dobbyn, The Clean, The Exponents, Darcy Clay, Mutton Birds, Th'Dudes, The Senators/Ray Columbus and the Invaders, The Swingers and Blam Blam Blam.
The movie's source 'Daffodils' stage play was the winner of a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The film was produced by Libertine Pictures and KHF Media with investment from the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ on Air, TVNZ, the Kelly Entertainment Co, Park Road Post Production, Avalon Studios and with financing from Kiwibank. Transmission Films distributed the film in Australia and New Zealand in 2019.
