This show was also a theater piece and was performed by Van Dyke at the Newark Public Library on December 1, 1983. The show was expanded into a 90 minute version performed in May 1985 as part of the "Jubilee! Black Theater Festival" at the American Place Theater at 111 W. 46th Street in New York City. The New York Times review of the show stated "There is a lot of politics in this short play, but mostly there is Lorraine Hansberry. Miss Van Dyke's version of her is graceful, powerful and immensely appealing. She accomplishes something remarkable here; she lets you see a superb actress creating, but never lets you forget the real woman who inspired the creation."
