"That Time of Year" is the Christmas Movie that you would want. All of the actors are great, the story is a bit old, but it's told in a fresh way. There are many cringeworthy moments, but in a good way. It's funny, touching at times but most of all: It has the Christmas spirit!

A few funny moments, but no real plot.
I have no Idea how this can win a price for best screenplay. More wellknown Danish actors but the movie was a waste of time.

This is a difficult film to watch because of how well it portrays a realistically dysfunctional family.
All of the individual characters are very well realised and some seemingly throwaway lines carry so much weight when you see their impact. The performances are top notch and there's always a sense from every actor that there's much more going on behind their eyes. I am truly astonished at how well the script is balanced between these characters and at how much of a distinct impression each character leaves on you by the end.
Even though I've never experienced anything close to the events of this film personally, it still manages to be intensely relatable to a disturbing degree. I recommend it if you're looking for a film you'll love but will never want to watch again.

This too me is is some ways reminiscent of National Lampoon's Christmas vacation, just in danish and with danish traditions. Very well done movie which will both make you laugh and cringe, and also warm your heart. I will watch it every christmas from now on. Highly recommended.

There are too many cheesy films on Christmas out there... But I - (un)fortunately - tend to see the things that lie beneath, always when people with different generations/genders get together in a limited time and space, whether relatives or not, plus alcohol included... Den tid på året shows different attitudes and aspects in a witty and smooth manner, nothing is really over the top, perhaps all those elements do not occur within a day during one celebration.
And the cast is wonderful, incl. several of my favourite Danish performers (Gråbøl, Steen, Brygmann) who have really versatile characters to play. Additional point from me for the ending scenes where reality and common Xmas feeling (through weather, soundtrack) are astutely combined.
Definitely my 2nd favourite Xmas film - after Bad Santa.

Prior to watching "That Time of Year" I had no idea that Paprika Steen also has directed movies, including this one. I´m interested in watching other movies that she has directed.
And I must say that this movie is good. It has some funny scenes and, of course, a large amount of family drama. I wouldn´t say that this movie is violent. The dialogue stands for most of the drama. At least if you ask me.
I don´t know if I would like to celebrate Christmas with this family. My answer is maybe. I´ve only celebrated Christmas in Sweden with my family and friends. All in all, I would recommend this movie if you want to get into Christmas mood.
