Mollywood Mammootty gives his hundred percent and makes ‘Madhura Raja’ look lot better than what it is. Fahir MaithuttyYouTube screenshotUnlike Mammootty's other action blockbusters in 2000s like Rajamanikyam or Big B, Pokkiri Raja never had novelty in the sketch of its lead character. Perhaps one aspect that stood out in Pokkiri Raja was how it still gave space to Prithviraj Sukumaran in a Mammootty movie, allowing him to have a blast in the first half, before Mammootty arrived at the interval. Despite being slightly loud, Suraj Venjaramoodu's Idivettu Sugunan also raised few laughs in the movie. When you come to the sequel Madhura Raja, you already miss these two factors. MollywoodA day before the release, the director wrote a little note on her blog, about a regional film written by Sachin Kundalkar.Digital NativeA day before her movie was to release, director Anjali Menon revealed that Koode is an adaptation of a regional film. “I found myself re-imagining the story in a different way and when I discussed it with its makers they graciously offered the adaptation rights to me. But he had some advice – to keep one peculiar element under the wraps as they had done,” wrote Anjajli on her blog. She has been keeping the origin of the story under wraps until then but as is her usual practice, Anjali wrote a little note on the eve of her release. “Koode is an adaptation of the original story by Sachin Kundalkar. I am honoured that he trusted me with the story and it has been a rich learning experience for me. For those who have seen the original please be prepared to see a different interpretation. I humbly request our audience and media to not share that element in their reviews so that everyone may experience the movie first hand.” Anjali has carefully avoided naming the other film, for if one knew that one ‘peculiar element’ before watching it, half the fun would be lost. That element is a beautiful surprise that is revealed witin the first few minutes of the movie, but it’s well worth not knowing it before. Prithviraj and Nazriya play siblings in Koode. And Parvathy plays Prithvi’s love interest. The film also has Maala Parvathi, Ranjith, Roshan Mathew, Siddharth Menon, Nandhu Pothuval and Atul Kulkarni in the cast. Written and directed by Anjali Menon, Koode is bankrolled by Renjith under the banner Rejaputhra Visual Media and Anjali's Little Films India. The music has been composed by Raghu Dixit and M Jayachandran. Other technical crew of the film includes Littil Swayamp for cinematography, Praveen Prabhakar for editing, Arvind Ashok Kumar for production designing, Pampa Biswas for costume designing and Mitta Antony for makeup. MollywoodWill the two films also clash at the box office?Digital NativeDigital NativeOne of the most popular naval chiefs of the Zamorin, Kunjali Marakkar fought the Portuguese valiantly in the late 16th and the early 17th century. Two films on this hero have been announced and interestingly both the superstars in the Malayalam film industry are keen on playing Kunjali Marakkar. While director Priyadarshan had announced a few months earlier that he would go on to direct Mohanlal in Kunjali Marakkar and that it would be a big budget project, producer Shaji Nadeshan also came out with the announcement that Mammootty and director Santosh Sivan will be collaborating for a movie on Kunjali Marakkar. In his post on Facebook, he wrote, “Kunjali marrakkar pre production works in full swing! Shoot starts july 2018.” It may be mentioned here that director Priyadarshan had said earlier that he would wait for eight months and if the Mammootty – Santosh Sivan project failed to materialise, he would go ahead with his. Now, a Facebook post from music composer Mg Sree Kumar says, “Our new film ‘Kunjali Marakkar’ starts shortly. Please bless us. Love u all,” along with a pic of Mohanlal and Priyadarshan which makes it clear that the film is progressing at a brisk pace. Being an historic film, a lot of research is going into it. With both the stars from the Malayalam film industry opting for the same subject, it could turn out to be a big box office clash if both the films are released on the same date. At present, Mammootty as well as Mohanlal are busy with a number of projects on hands. While Mammootty’s Peranbu, Uncle and Parole are in different stages of production, Mohanlal has Odiyan and Neerali in his kitty apart from Kayamkulam Kochunni in which he plays a cameo while Nivin Pauly plays the title role. KollywoodAnjali has clocked over a decade in the film industry.Digital Native Anjali--compressed.jpgDigital NativeAnjali has successfully clocked over a decade in the film industry since her debut with the 2006 Telugu film Photo. Since then, she’s been part of some memorable projects such as Kattradhu Tamizh, Angadi Theru, Engeyum Eppothum and Geethanjali among others. In a recent chat with Deccan Chronicle, looking back at her decade-long career, she said it’s her dream to win a national award. “I have bagged a few awards including the state award in Andhra. But my aim is to get a national award for which I have been working hard and choosing scripts, which would give me scope.” Her next Tamil release is Balloon, a horror-thriller slated for December 29 release. Talking about the project, she said: “Though a horror film, Balloon has everything from comedy to romance to emotions etc. Jai will be seen in a dual dimensional role and he is a balloon seller in one of them. Hence this title, I guess (smiles). People still talk about our earlier flick Engeyum Eppothum. This one is totally different." When asked who is the actual ghost in the film, which also stars Janani Iyer, she said, “That’s the suspense!” Anjali was also asked about her rumoured relationship with co-star Jai, whom she’s believed to be dating for a while. “We are good friends,” she clarified, putting to rest all the rumours about the couple that’s been doing the rounds. She also said she has no time to think about marriage at the moment. “I am doing films like Peranbu with Mammootty, Kanbathu Poi (a female centric action thriller), Vijay Antony’s Kali in Tamil and a few including one with Nandi Award winner Karri Balaji in Tollywood. So, it has been hectic. I completed 10 years in film industry and am happy that I am still received well in Tamil as well as Telugu.” Anjali is one of the few actors who can easily slip into any character she’s offered. Last year, she stunned audiences and critics alike in Karthi Subbaraj’s Iraivi. Her performance as a haunted girl in Telugu film Geethanjali earned her the Nandi Award for Best Actress.
