Ignore the bad reviews. Given some of the snarky comments, I would say that they were politically based because it is a mostly Spanish-speaking comedy produced by Lorne Michaels, rather than creditable critiques of the actual content of the show itself.
If you like Fred Armisen and the type of off-beat humor portrayed in Portlandia, you will like this. Really quirky and funny dialogue & situations complimented by good acting.
I binge-watched the whole first season in one setting. The only reason I gave it 8 stars instead of 9 is that I am not a fan of subtitles - regardless of the underlying language or who produces it. I did find myself having to pause the video a lot to read the longer subtitles. But even with having to do that - loved the show itself.

The humor is just way too overt for me. This could be fixed by pacing, but there's quite a bit of the ol' "take a beat sobthe audience gets the joke" going on. Plus, I predicted at least half the jokes.

Don't expect "Los Espookys" to deliver the standard characters, plots and situations you've come to expect from decades of situation comedies.
Some things, well a lot of details in this show make no sense. But "sense" is for the real world and L.Es. is a delightfully unique show that puts the real world aside and glides through it's weirdness with pure delight and affection for its wonderfully "spooky" cast. And that affection is contagious. Try this series and see if you don't agree.
I look forward to each and every unique and sublimely clever episode!

I loved this sublime absurdist masterpiece. It's catered towards a certain sense of abstract humour. It's a show that's intelligent and thoughtful. I've never seen anything with this unique vibe before. Perfectly balances the horror and humour.
The sets are absolutely gorgeous and the whole thing looks stunning and lavish! So many frames look carefully constructed and beautifully crafted.
The acting tends to be brilliantly understated & each unique character is deftly portrayed by the exceptional cast. The cast also has great chemistry between them and there are lovely relationship dynamics.
The Spanish language element really works well to add to the sense of alien-ness created by the show.
I just wish more episodes had been made. Totally underrated and needs to reach a much wider audience!

I'm a simple man that misses complex jokes. Which makes this show perfect for me. Actors are great, it's written well, shots look very smooth colors are very nice. Humor is simple straight forward. I feel that it helps to be in an open mindset to revive and appreciate all this show has to offer in humor and in the story plot line. I've almost failed high school Spanish yet I'm absolutely HOOKED on this show. I never knew I could enjoy a show of a language I hardly understand. 10/10 I would recommend this to anyone for a relaxing simple comedy

Created in part by Fred Armisen and Julio Torres (SNL) follows a group of friends as they create "spooky" situations and horror for parties, tourism events, and even diplomats. Extremely random and quirky, also mostly in Spanish, the series was a lot of fun and never took itself seriously. A lot of the situations had me laughing out load, equally many just left me baffled. I think it has a lot of potential, and a season 2 has been filmed to be released soon. I'll be waiting for it.
With season 2 just finished I can happily say the series maintains its quirky quality and remains quite fun and enjoyable. I had a few good laughs in this second season and hope more continues.

This show is hysterical. It doesn't take itself seriously at all which is refreshing. I find myself constantly laughing. I don't know why people are downvoting this for subtitles as it's a super common thing now and doesn't at all interrupt viewing.

I heard this was a great comedy, but it's more odd than funny. Armisen earned enough goodwill from Portlandia for me to think it was worth checking out, but I really don't see where it's going. Mild humor. A couple of mildly interesting, quirky characters and some less interesting ones. Hints of intrigue that might pay off later but nothing that makes me feel it's worth pursuing.
I was so pleasantly surprised watching Los Espookys. I had watched a bad run of new shows/new seasons that left me angry or irritated. I kept hearing about this show but the plot didn't necessarily seem like something that would interest me. I'm so glad I finally caved and watched it. Los Espookys is a breath of fresh air. My only problem is that there are only 6 episodes! There is a very offbeat, quirky, artsy, dry sense of humor to the show. Imagine if April Ludgate and her strange friends from Parks and Recreation got the Portlandia treatment, but in Mexico. I've spent much of my life surrounded by strange people experiencing existential dread with odd yet funny personalities, so I found the characters relatable and very likable (or at east very amusing).
Yes there are subtitles, but as long as you are able to read at an adult level with no issues, they aren't a problem. Characters do speak fast and the pacing of the action is fast, so it's a show best viewed when you're able to pay attention - not exactly the kind of show you want to play in the background when you are doing chores.
I hope there are many more seasons of Los Espookys. I hope they are longer seasons. I hope I see more from the cast in the future.

This is a completely new brand of comedy that leaves me begging for more at the end of each episode. If you're a fan of "At Home with Amy Sedaris" or John Waters' films, you'll instantly get it. Very creative team of writers & performers. Watch it!

What a surprise. This is the best Lorne Michaels production since Saturday Night Live was good. It pretty much reverse Scooby Doo. It follows the story of a group that sets up the fake scares. Genius!
If you love Fred Armisen humor, you'll love this! I do, so I loved it.
My only complaint is that the English captions for the Spanish are way off. I'm not an native speaker, but I took Spanish in high school, and even I could tell the transitions were wrong.

This is not even funny to a 6 year old. Armisens latest attempt to make a comedy but the reality is he wasn't funny even on SNL. So he & also talentless Lorne Michael's decide to take this garbage to a Spanish audience. Pathetic, sophmoric, childish waste of 30 minutes. To add insult to injury, if you don't understand Spanish, you will have to trudge thru the subtitles in English but that's the best part coz it put me to sleep during the second episode. Good sleeper show...Buenos Noches for good!

I've already recommended this show to my parents and friends. Each episode was lighthearted and fun. I felt a little refreshed by the playful comedy in this show. The subtitles didn't detract at all and I hope to watch more of this series in the future.

I don't understand why the creators of Los Espookys would intentionally exclude an audience that can not or does not want to read television. I'm all for inclusion but if this is a political statement, it's a very weak and passive aggressive one. If you want a much better horror/comedy situation comedy watch WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. I think Los Espookys might grow to become something as well loved and well respected as WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, but the world may never know. Who knows what the freak is going on? Only Spanish speaking viewers and those who don't mind that they are missing all the action because they have to have their eyes on the closed captioning all the time.
It's a fun show to watch keep bringing gold HBO just one of those shows that doesn't need too much thinking involved, interested to see where the show goes from here

I would love to know more about "Los Espookys"---how they came up with the idea, where it was filmed and why they chose to make it in Spanish. Regardless, I really did enjoy it and am looking forward to seeing season two on Netflix!
It's very difficult to describe this show as well as why I enjoyed it. Suffice to say that I love TV shows that are weird, quirky and unusual....and this one certainly fits the bill. It's the story of a group of four odd Hispanic folks who have a business, Los Spookys. Their goal is to use scary gimmicks, makeup and props to make a living. Now you'd THINK this would involve making movies or throwing parties, but they often use their skills for the most bizarre and funny clients--such as a priest who wants to fake an exorcism in order to show up a flashy young priest as well as creating a Loch Ness Monster/Sasquatch type creature to bring a seaside town tourism! Add to that some of the quirkiest characters and situations and you've got the makings for weird...big time!
The show is well written, clever and well worth seeing. My concern, however, is that many folks will refuse to watch any show with subtitles...and it's a shame as you are bound to laugh and enjoy it if you give it a chance.

Los espookys is a hilariously creative show. Every moment is oddball humor. I don't know who writes the dialogue, but I bet they're hilarious and fascinatingly bizarre IRL, because the humor is a dramatic departure from the norm of other comedies. Like, just now, I'm watching it, and a character walks I'm from the store, having bought ONLY carrots. Like, why 😂
When it was first announced and advertised, they made a big deal of Fred Armisen being in it, but he's literally the worst part of it (Not your fault Fred- it's just that the rest is so darn good!). The ensemble cast plays off each other very well, and it's just a non-stop laugh fest- and I can't stop smiling through the whole show.

At first I thought well kinda dumb plot, but then I started to watch this gem and boom I was hooked. I loved Portlandia and saw that SNLs Lorne Michaels was connected and Fred Armison then this really made sense. This show is genius in some ways it has spoofs of the Scream T.V. series, Los Diablos AMH and a lil weird teleThere is a element of reverse reactions to your typical scare tactics of which the character Andrés is a master of reverse reactions to what is a norm to scares w powers that no one knows he has . Tati is a brilliant airhead. Ursula a headstrong, lesbian and the brains . There's Tico( Armison) a valet expert, lol and numerous side characters and even Frutsi, the cutest dog name ever. Plus a strange show host of Mira Esto who seems to be under some kind of control. Oh and there's Pepito a strange lil man who seems to get into the story in lol ways. So there now you know of the characters and the situations? You just have to watch it's all original and enjoy this excellent creation...

If this show were in English, I would give it a higher rating. I really want to enjoy this show. I like the premise. The problem is that my Spanish isn't good enough to enjoy the dialogue without the subtitles and I can't enjoy the show with subtitles. I want to watch the show, not read the bottom of the screen the entire time.
Personally, I don't like this show, but I would probably like it if it were in English. I'm not surprised that it failed. The premise was too ambitious. What made the creators think that an American audience would like reading subtitles while watching a comedy?
I enjoy reading and when I want to read, I read a book. I don't watch TV when I want to read.
It's not a bad show. It's very creative and original. I just don't find it enjoyable because of the creators' choice to film it in Spanish with English subtitles.

As a native Spanish speaker I'm not fond of any Spanish programming either on Network or Streaming It's all very bad and mediocre.
But this show caught me by surprise, It's smart and the humor Is spot on. The writers are doing well with this.
I'm a very big fan of Fred; Portlandia was one of my favorite shows. I can always trust Fred to associate with smart people with good taste for comedy.
Tati is the best!! #tatihustle

Fun and odd. I've loved every minute. Natural acting and some new ways to play with the camera.
