Tone, Script & Story: Story revolves around hockey player Sandeep, how he enters national team, gets injured, even gets out and then makes a comeback, this time as a captain.
I liked the motivation that got him going for the first time (woman), it was terrible to see it going away for the next time, but this time it came in the name of country. This time the captain won on dual grounds. If it's shown how he is a captain, a little bit of team game could have been shown. I still liked the thin story line based on fastest drag-flicks.
Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: What came to my mind was Sandeep Singh himself was a consultant. Despite that it appears 'unees bees' when it comes to reality.
Music: Music was average. Acting: I liked acting from all leads and some of them were a real treat.
Final Verdict: It's a good 'flick', not as highlighted by most of the critics! A biography you must not miss!

Inspite of the weak direction , the movie is watchable all thanks to such lovely performances by DILJIT , TAPSEE , ANGAD , SATISH
You must not miss watching this movie.
Absolutely wonderful and inspiring. Diljit as Sandeep is such a heart melting character. So much innocence and goodness and what determination and strength to have made such a come back. To the real life Sandeep paaji -" hats off to you sardarji. We love you "👏👏

Soorma (Warrior in English) is a biographical sports drama film based on the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh. The film is co-written and directed by Shaad Ali.
The film depicts the extraordinary story of the international hockey player Sandeep Singh (Diljit Dosanjh), through his first step in hockey, his love life, his surprising rise in the world of hockey, and mainly the accidental gunshot injury which paralyzes him and puts him in a wheelchair. This fateful catastrophic event completely breaks him and his dreams, but against all odds, Sandeep gets back on his feet and makes the greatest comeback to international hockey.
Along with Diljit Dosanjh, the film also stars Tapsee Pannu as Harpreet, a really good hockey player, Sandeep's love interest, and the sole reason for Sandeep to learn hockey. Angad Bedi as Bikramjeet Singh, who is playing Sandeep's kind and supportive elder brother. And Vijay Raaz as Harry, Sandeep's stubborn and quirky Coach.
Unlike most other real-life sports films, this one is not just only about a struggle and rise, but it also tells the story of a fateful fall and an epic comeback. The story is good and inspirational but is crunched in the runtime of just two hours. The movie was high on content and drama that it could have been made of at least three hours, which would have let some really crucial moments to breathe and would have been much more impactful to the audience. The first half of the film almost make audiences remember the storyline of Sultan (2016). The film definitely gives Chak de! India (2007) and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) vibe to the audience but does not reach that level of maturity and sincerity. The performances by all the actors are really good, no doubt in that. The film definitely inspires throughout its runtime, and finally treats the audience with the India-Pakistan match.
Verdict : The film is worth to watch, has some little flaws but can be neglected.

Movie is fantastic. All the lead actors did their part well. Vijay Raj and Angad Bedi did noticable job.
Story: 7/10
Direction: 7/10
Acting: 9/10
I wonder why this movie become unnoticed. In oir country, majority of the people have worst taste in movies. This film is in a straight line without any masala. What happens in the real life can be seen here.

#Soorma :
Another biopic of this year is released this Friday. Based on the life of Former Captain of Indian Men's Hockey Team, Sandeep Singh, who is also known as Flicker Singh, this biographical movie is directed by Shaad Ali.
Film covers events of Sandeep's life that made him the star he is Today. After an accidental gunshot injured him in 2006, he was paralyzed. But once a warrior, always a warrior. So, he bounced back with a bang. And that's why this film is called Soorma, meaning warrior.
Diljit Dosanjh plays the titular role of Sandeep Singh Soorma. Taapasee Pannu is there as his love interest whose influence made him to join hockey in early days. The chemistry between these two is superb. I loved the love song featuring these two. It is indeed this year's best love song!
Diljit Paaji is as usual fantastic. Some character needs simplicity as well as complexity, and Diljit has given perfectly as per the requirement. Taapasee looks adorable and acts fine in her role. Satish Kaushik and his on screen brother are good to see. Kulbhushan Kharbanda is good. Special mention for Vijay Raaz. Whenever he comes on screen, public will laugh and enjoy! He is the true entertainer. Good job by him as Sandeep's coach.
Music by Shankar Ehsan Loy trio and lyrics by Gulzar sahab are again on the right track. After the soulful songs in Raazi, here they are giving us some hardcore Punjabi songs. Ishq Di Baajiyaa is one of the most pure and realistic songs one can ever make. Soorma Anthem is good, too. Pardesiya is very soulful. Singers of this song are contestants of Rising Stars where Diljit and Shankar appear as judges.
I was expecting a lot form Shaad Ali. Thus, I am disappointed with him. Ok Jaanu was a superb movie, but it's not up to that mark. Film lacks in some parts. It is slow paced, so the fault is in the screenplay. However, it can not be in the best biopics ever made. Though, it surely is an one time watch film to know the story of Sandeep Singh.
Film will manage to recover its cost of making. It is not a bad movie, just not a solid one. So, whoever will watch it, will give a thumps up for sure. You will surely love the equation between Diljit and Pannu. Get inspire from the legend!

**Direction:**
After huge disappoint from Kill Dil and Ok Jaanu, Shaad Ali (undefined) tried something new for him as he usually love to remake his Mentor Mani Ratnam (director) (undefined) 's Tamil Super-hits e.g. Sathiyaa, OK Jaanu (2017 movie) (undefined) . This biopic has intense struggle and love but i feel that Hockey was little less intense as we are expecting more intense Climax.
**Performance:**
Diljit (undefined) Dosanjh was exceptionally brilliant in the role of Sandeep Singh. He looks great as lover or fighter. Taapsee Pannu (undefined) looks pretty and good chemistry between her and Diljit. Angad Bedi showcase great bonding between brother. Vijay Raaz was good in touch in the role of Coach. Kulbhushan Kharbanda has small supporting role but it was worthy one.
**Script:**
Shaad Ali tried to give honest touch to the script however it lacks inclusion more about preparation and execution in Hockey match. Rehab portion can be little shorter and add more Chak De type thriller so that Indian audience got what they expect from Bollywood cinema.
**Music and Lyrics:**
Shankar- Ehsaan and Loy delivered another soulful music album after Raazi. Each and every song good for ears especially Diljit's Ishq Di Baajiyaan and Shankar's Soorma Anthem. Gulzar done brilliant job with lyrics once again.
**Dialogues:**
Dialogues were full of punches. When Vijay Raaz say" Hum Bihari hain, Jor se thook dege to chhed ho jayega" . After this dialogue whistle and claps all over the cinema hall.
**Box-office:**
As this movie open less than expected opening day collection. It was able to mint 3 crores on Friday. Word of mouth is good, not super so we can expect some jump on Saturday and Sunday. It seems that lifetime collection will be around 30-40 crores.
**Last Words:**
Nowadays Bollywood directors are serving new new dishes and it is audience's sole responsibility to taste all the dishes in the Cinema halls.

Soorma is based on the real life incidents of Indian Hockey player and ex-captain Sandeep Singh aka Flicker Singh. The movie is fairly enjoyable but it's not as good as was promised by the trailer.
It'll entertain you thoroughly during the first half, but, the second half, that includes the most critical part of the story, fails to make the impact that it should have.
The script doesn't do justice to the struggle faced by the player in actual life.
The actors have done full justification to their characters. Diljit Dosanjh, who is playing the protagonist, has done a great job. He has done full justice to what was demanded by the script. Taapsee Pannu, who is playing the love of the protagonist, did not had much to bring to the table, still, she has done a pretty good job. Angad Bedi, Vijay Raaz and the remaining cast are also fair to their roles.
In short, Soorma is a movie that you can watch and enjoy. It'll surely inspire you but do not expect too much from it.

The movie could have been so better but unfortunately even such a great come back story (on which the movie is based) was so ordinarily shown in the movie.
Diljit has done a fine job and so have other actors as the script presented a great opportunity with a whole lot of things to potray in Sandeep's life. This was missing in Harjeeta. Soorma is based on real life and real struggles of a hockey player who battles the odds to rise again. Diljit has improved a lot as an actor. He should do more movies that offer strong and intimidating roles like Sandeep Singh, rather than doing movies like Welcome to New York.

Story
Soorma is the story based on the life of the former Indian Hockey team captain. He met with the accident after his first International match. He was the highest goal scorer in that tournament & he was the fastest drag flicker in the world so media has given him a name " Flicker Singh". This s the story of his come back after the accident that he met with & became the Indian team captain. He has won the Arjuna Award in 2010.
Screenplay & Direction
Screenplay was given by Suyash Trivedi, Shaad Ali & Shiva Ananth. In this type of biopic movie screenplay plays very important role, if it is best your biopic will be better. In the field of screenplay this movie gets the clapping for it. Although dialogues are not that much impactful, it creates magic that it needed. After "Saathiya" this film comes on the second place in the field of direction. In between no movie of Shaad Ali's creates the record on the box office as well as not critically acclaimed. Direction is not much impactful because direct the biopic is very tough job & he has taken the risk, he success in it a little-bit.
Cinematography & Editing
Cinematography not played much part in this film but it is so so. The toughest part in the movie based on real life story is editing & Farooq Hundekar has done the fantastic job story creates the aura around you & it does not slip anywhere. You will find the continuation in it.
Acting
All the actors has done their part very heartily but the main character that is played by actor-singer Diljit Dosanj & he has done magnificent job in the role of Sandeep Singh. Bikramjit Singh the elder brother's of Sandeep Singh played by Angad Bedi. Chemistry between these two guys is awesome. Chemistry between Seema Kaushal who has played Diljit's mother's character & Diljit him self is also impactful. Tapsee Pannu has played the role of Harpreet Kaur who is also an Indian Hockey player. She has done her part good but her role has not portrayed very well. Satish Kaushik has played her role very sincerely.
Music
Music of the Shankar Ehsaan Loy is soulful two songs has left the impression on the mind. One is soorma title song & other is ishq di baajiyaan. Lyrics of gulzaar is also meaningful. Background score is also good. Theme of the song "Ishq Di Baajiyan" plays in whole movie in background & it sounds very well.
Overall Verdict
If you are a Diljit Dosanj fan this movie is must for you.Overall impression of the movie is not as good as other biopic like Bhaag milkha bhaag but it is one time watch also for the inspiration to the nation & the courage of the sport person.

The movie Soorma, which showcases the real life story of ace drag flicker Sandeep Singh, never attempted to over-dramatize things and in doing so somewhat fell flat on the audience. It may have deliberately stuck to being true to the real life incidents of this former penalty corner specialist and captain of Indian national hockey team and his unfortunate twist of fate, but in trying to keep it simple, it failed to arouse the viewers enough to truly appreciate it purely as a 'moving' movie. The script and direction left a void I felt. The scenes with Vijay Raaz as coach packed a punch but acting of Angad Bedi, Bishen Singh Bedi's son, left much to be desired. Overall, I give it a 6/10, a story howsoever told which deserved every bit to reach us...

#Soorma is a biopic which depicts the life of hockey player sandeep singh. He suffers a major accident n is paralyzed below the waist. Hes okay with spending his remaining life on a wheelchair. But when his girlfriend ditches him, hes devastated n decides to move on. With his determination n the support of the hockey board, hes back on his feet. He makes a splendid comeback n wins laurels for our country. The narration is straight forward n inspiring. Very good performances by #daljitdosanjh n #angadbedi. Hope to see them more often. Running time should be reduced by 20 minutes. Rating 3/5.
This I think is the best bollywood movie of 2018 and one of the best biopics made till date. All the actors give powerful performances and especially vijay raaz. Perfect blend of comedy, emotion and drama. Must watch if you like to watch good movies.

If there is one thing I learned from Soorma is to focus on the work you are doing. Do it for the pleasure it offers in itself and not as a means to achieve something else.
When I saw the trailer for Soorma, I honestly thought that it is another Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Turns out it is like that and some more. The rags to riches story of Soorma is a set pattern. You show a few scenes of before, a turning point and then 6 months to a year of training montage and then the sportsperson performing his or her best on a stage that matters. Everyone is happy. By no means, I am disrespectful of the sportspersons, but the pattern is definitely old. Soorma is all that and some more.
Soorma, being based on a true story, is massively inspirational. It has moments that restore faith in mankind and also moments which make you question about the state of sports other than cricket. It is hard to say how it is different without giving spoilers. It reminded me of Kung Fu Panda and the way Shifu trains Po. His training is shaped through his love of food and here, Soorma's training shapes through the love of his life. Towards the end both realize that their determination is in the act itself and not in the triggers that resulted in them.
Most such movies inspire people to start playing sports or take a gym membership. Soorma felt different because I didn't feel inspired to follow his tracks. I was inspired to excel at the job I like to do, whichever that is. Most of the times we end up doing things to achieve something else. An IT engineer goes to office not to excel at the code, but to earn money. If Soorma helps us in changing that perception a little and people start focusing on the act they do more than the illusory goals, I would call the movie a success.
Coming to the other aspects of the film. The acting by Diljit Dosanjh is amazing as Sandeep, and Tapsee is very convincing as his love interest Harpreet. Industry veterans like Vijay Raaz need no validation. The playback score is engaging but all the songs fall flat. None of the songs could connect with me and they get extremely tiring. This is definitely not some work that can go on Shankar Ehsaan Loy's resume.
If you like sports movies or inspirational movies, this is definitely worth a watch.

#Soorma Is About Comeback Of Hockey Player #SandeepSingh But It's Also A Comeback Of #DiljitDosanjh In The Bollywood Industry After His Previous Disaster #WelcomeToNewYork. #DiljitDosanjh And #VijayRaaz Just Nailed It, #AngadBedi And #TaapseePannu Also Shines In Thier Roles. Talking About Music It Goes Well With The Story #ShankarEhsaanLoy Has Done Justice To It. Dialogues They Aren't That Great You Won't Remember Any At The End. #ShaadAli Really Nailed It After His Previous Average Movies Like #OkJaanu And #KillDill But Surely He Could Have Done More Better. In The First Half You Won't Get Connected To The Movie But In The Second Half It's Much Better #Soorma Written And Directed By #ShaadAli Overall
Surely Deserves An Applause...
My Rating : 7/10...
One of the most poorly directed biopic and sports movie which Bollywood ever produced. The sound mixing and background scores are were poor for any standards. The movie failed to create proper climax and sports action sequences in most scenes. This story had so much potential.
