Stars: Lauren Beatty, Greg Bryk, Katharine King So, Michael Ironside, Judith Buchan | Written by Wendy Hill-Tout, Lowell | Directed by Amelia Moses
We reviewed Amelia Moses’ Bleed With Me at Fantasia last year. And now her latest feature, Bloodthirsty, co-written by Wendy Hill-Tout and her daughter Lowell, is screening at Frightfest after a successful US festival run. Her first film was a take on vampirism, the second takes on lycanthropy. Can she go two for two in updating classic monsters?
Grey is a singer with a hit debut album. She also has writer’s block and nightmares about becoming a wolf. Dr. Swan gives her pills but they aren’t helping. She might have a cure for her writing issues though. Vaughn Daniels a reclusive producer whose career is equal parts successful and controversial has offered his services. Grey and her girlfriend Charlie (Katharine King So; Transplant) take up residence at his isolated studio.

Don’t Say Its Name begins in a familiar enough manner. Kharis (Sheena Kaine) walks home alone on a dark woodland road when something starts following her. Only this creature is metal, a heavy-duty pickup, its engine roaring as it charges at her. Her body will be found the next day, struck down, dragged and left to die. Not long after, a surveyor is attacked and killed in the woods. They won’t be the last to die.
Coal company Wec has closed a deal to strip mine tribal land. Kharis was an outspoken opponent of their plans and her death is believed to be their doing. Was the death of their surveyor retribution for hers? Or is something more primal turning the snow red? That’s what local sheriff Mary...

Now in its 25th year, the Red Nation Film Festival looks to shine a light on the voices, stories, contributions and assets of contemporary Native peoples in replacing dangerous stereotypes that Native peoples face in media and academia.
Festival curator Joanelle Romero says, “I have created a 25-year history of cohesive research-informed strategies, ground-breaking initiatives, though cinematic excellence, media and strong focus on partnerships.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the festival will be held virtually through the month of November, tying into Native American Heritage Month.
The festival will screen 105 films, 73 documentaries, 35 films directed by women, 12 student films and 10 experimental films.
Romero says, “I love Indigenous independent films, it’s a lens into life stories that we the people don’t usually do not get to experience. Their courage and insight to tell their perspective is of utmost importance in creating systemic change through film.”

"Every decision you make today affects the next seven generations." Level Film is releasing this new sci-fi thriller film titled Parallel Minds, an indie creation about Artificial Intelligence and a future where we record our memories to transfer to the next generation. When the programmer of a self-aware A.I. computer systems ends up dead, her colleague and a police detective investigate and try to find out what's going on. This is another of these high concept, modern sci-fi films that tries to play with ideas like A.I. and memory and computers and what is possible in the future, and how it can get out of hand. (As it always does...) But they're getting so much cheesier every time they make another. Parallel Minds stars Greg Bryk, Tommie-Amber Pirie, Madison Walsh, and Wilma Pelly. Apparently this was already released in September, but didn't make a dent. We didn't even...
