Chase says his father "never takes (the ring) out of its case", yet at no point in the story has it been in a case. It is hanging from a hook on a stand, not a case.
Early in the plot, much is made of a total van on anyone entering the study. Obviously people do, and Chase frets like a mother hen. Later, though, characters remove several artifacts from the room - a headdress, a ring, a tomahawk. One character even takes a book and reads it in the bath by candlelight, with Chase saying nothing.
Early on, Becky looks at a map and points out that the house is built directly on a burial ground. Chase confirms this, saying it was deliberate to send a message to local indigenous tribes. Later she meets Mr Green and asks him where the burial ground is relative to the house, then acts surprised when he says the house is right on top.
