"After All of This and Everything", the best song from the original stage version show, was not part of the television version. I understand there are certain words and phrases you can't use on the Disney Channel; so maybe the television version should have been more true to the stage version and presented on ABC. Love Heidi Blickenstaff in this roll, but it seems to have been transformed into a supporting character for the television version. The rest of the cast was fine, but the television production doesn't hold a candle to the stage version. The television version was not great, not awful....just ok.

I mean, perhaps not the greatest film adapation of a musical, and not a joy to watch for mature viewers, but the film deals with some lighthearted serious subject, as does the music. Remember that this is a literal Disney channel premier and fits in with the kind of content you'll find on Disney channel, whether you enjoy it or not
This is well produced and has a good cast, and is clearly aimed at a very young audience, as one might expect from a Disney Channel production. While it is unlikely to appeal to an older audience, the cast are charming, and the singing is excellent.

A musical? Really? 2003 version should have been the last. This version is horrible, the music is terrible, and who are these people?

This movie was the worst I have ever seen. None of the commercials mention that it js a musical. There is no real lesson to this movie and it is trash. The songs are just annoying and have no meaning and dont even make sense with the movie.

I tried giving it a chance. I didn't want to be THAT person who's always complaining about old ones always being the better ones, because we all need remakes every once in a while to keep the culture going. But not like this. I have one word for the movie, TRASH. Horrible horrible horrible. If I could get a refund from my Cable provider for those 2 hours I could.

This is just awful, just awful! It doesn't even deserve a star. The 2003 version was the best! The acting was terrible, even the mom and daughter fighting scenes were boring. I almost fell asleep while watching. A magic hour glass really? That's just stupid! It's pretty sad when you don't recognize any of the actors. The songs made it worse. There's too much "trying to keep up with the times." They really should have stopped with the 2003 version. Sounds like Disney is running out of ideas. Leave Freaky Friday alone!!! Don't waist your time with this snooze fest.

'Freaky Friday' is awful in every way, a complete embarrassment to its namesake. The daughter character has no redeeming characteristics -- she is lazy, dirty, socially handicapped, and is completely devoid of empathy. She treats everyone around her like they are sub-human. They took the teenager trope way too far and created a character the audience could never root for, and it is not believable that the other characters like her.
The mother character also makes no sense. No adult would have such a flawed memory as to go into high school so naive, starry eyed, and earnest. She also seemed to lose her ability to take social cues when she switched bodies. I'm not sure if the writers themselves have ever been to high school. I also do not understand why the writers thought it was a good idea to give her a crush on a 14 year old boy.
The songs are exclusively terrible and so long it becomes awkward, honestly not sure why it was a made a musical. There's no reason to say anything more than that, the musical segments have to be seen to for one to really understand how abhorrent they are.
So, why did I give this movie a 2 instead of a 1? All the problems I listed above combine for a special kind of awful. This movie is hilarious, from the bad lip syncing and singing down to the irrational and suspension of disbelief shattering level of unrealistic behavior the characters exhibit. At around a 70 minute runtime it is the perfect movie to watch when you're bored and looking for a laugh.

I'm a dad of two young girls. This is their first Freaky Friday experience. They loved the music and depictions of teenagers.
The music itself is very Broadway, and seems straight off the stage. I personally loved the music and my kids liked it too. This was a fun movie.

The singing was painful at best. It didnt belong in the movie and the lyrics were awful as well. Almost turned it off it was so bad.
I really enjoyed this movie, and think that it completely justified an updated version. The music (originally from the Broadway adaption) was amazing, and honestly so different than what is normally seen in a DCOM. The two leads had great voices, and convincingly acted as each other, something that can be hard to pull off. The rest of the cast were quite talented and had some good comedic timing, I really like the amount of diversity!
People should stop comparing this to the other versions, and how they changed it. Surely the point of remaking a film that has already been made three times is to shake it up and incorporate some different elements?

People are being very weird in the reviews. It's a cute movie, the songs are from the musical you weirdos!
I think the signing is cute and I enjoyed the movie. Is it a masterpiece? No. Is it cute? Sure!
I think Cozy is cute as a main character and does a good job. I think the acting is as you'd expect from a Disney movie. The actors look the age they're playing, which is a nice change of pace.
Overall y'all should just stop being so jaded and enjoy a cute little movie from Disney.
It's as good as Radio Rebel. I think that's actually a good comparison. This at the same level of acting and story as Radio Rebel. I don't see anyone arguing that's a masterpiece either, but it is fun!

When I first saw the commercials for this movie, I was annoyed that they were making yet another version of this, but we thought we'd give it a try anyway since we usually end up loving Disney movies. This was terrible. Like, so bad. I can't believe Disney even went through with this. Also, I feel I should add that I LOVE musicals, and this being an unexpected musical made it sooo much worse. The acting is bad. The lip syncing is bad. The songs are ridiculous (I mean, that biology one was just painful to watch with the lyrics and the cheesy dancing, and lets not even go into the fact that it's actually the mother singing about having feelings for a teenage boy..awkward). We will definitely not be watching this again.
I was excited to hear about the remake but i could barely get through the first half hour. The acting was the worst I've seen. Not a fan of the casting choices. No one sang good either. Not sure if it was a problem with direct tv or not, but the synching was not matched up with the voices to their lips. It was way off. The original was a million times better. This was awful. Just embarrassingly awful.

I tried to do a zero but it would not let me. That was the worst movie ever. I would rather shove that hourglass up my butt hole than watch that again. The singing and songs were horrible. It felt like my ears were bleeding. That movie just wasted my time. If you are reading this do not watch that movie.

This remake was painful to watch. The musical aspect was enough to not want to continue watching. Acting is okay. The spin on the remake was a good change but not enough to make it worth watching.

This movie is absolutely horrible. From the moment the actors come on the screen it just gets worse and worse with every word they speak. The acting is terrible and there is no chemistry between the actors. What makes it worse is the fact they just start singing out of the blue. Yes, I get that it's a Disney movie, but with the bad acting it just makes it that much worse. If you want to watch a random singing Disney movie watch High School Musical or Lemonade Mouth. However, if you must watch Freaky Friday watch the Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis version it's much better.
It's not exactly an Academy award winning show, but it's entertaining. The two leads were pretty good and I liked the songs. I caught it on Disney+ and it was a suggestion after I watched the original freaky Friday. I didn't even know it was a musical until six minutes into it. But I'm glad I watched it

Horribly awkward and weird. Horrible filmmaking. The music really drowns the story as well. The acting is terrible. Probably one of the weirdest DCOMS I've seen. It really had a chance to be better, it's just extremely under developed.

Lighten up people! This was a fun Disney musical with catchy tunes and a simple reminder of how kids and parents don't always see eye to eye. Reading all the negative reviews affirms we are living in a time of cynicism and hate. Very sad that so many can't just take it for what it is - a brief escape form all the crap in the world. Oh, and the dog sitting on the bench was pretty awesome!

This movie made me want to puke in my mouth. It was cheesier than the Mac 'n' cheese I had for lunch. When I heard the song, "Biology" the happiness in my heart took a trip to sadness sappy sad land. So cringe worthy it made my head spin off my body.
TRASH.
Thanks! Have a nice day and don't be stupid and watch this movie (like I did LOL)

It's a Disney movie with an off broadway/Glee type flair. Its a made for Disney channel musical. Don't expect the Sound of Music or Oscar performances. Take it for what it is and enjoy it. Im a middle aged man and needed that distraction during this covid insanity!
Should have not been a musical ....to much musical not enough movie. very bad movie original one was really good..this is the first movie that disney has made awful .
