Gotham is expanding in “The Penguin” and that means a lot of familiar names, but new faces. In some cases, it means new names too.
Premiering on HBO on Thursday, September 19, “The Penguin” takes place just a few weeks after the events of “The Batman,” but centers on crime boss Oz Cobb — better known as the Penguin. With Gotham effectively in ruins, it’s a race to see who can control the streets, and he thinks his time has come.
That becomes a bit harder, though, when Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine Falcone, unexpectedly returns from Arkham Asylum.
We won’t spoil anything, but here are the major players you’ll need to keep up with.

Does anyone remember when the first season of “Arrested Development” beat out the final season of “Sex and the City” at the Emmys? Or the iconic moment when “Moonlight” snatched the Oscar for best picture from “La La Land” after a historic mix-up? Awards shows are no stranger to stunning upsets, and this year, FX’s “The Bear” finds itself among the ranks of notable jaw-dropping moments, losing the Emmy for outstanding comedy series to HBO/Max’s “Hacks.”
Despite its loss in the top category, “The Bear” shattered the all-time comedy series record with 11 wins, a monumental feat that only makes its three losses — each to “Hacks” — in lead comedy actress, writing, and, of course, the big prize, feel all the more jarring.

Prolific writer, director and producer Greg Berlanti spoke of his personal journey and lifelong love of television when receiving the 2024 Governors Award at the Emmy Awards.
“I wanted to be a part of television even before I knew how that was possible,” the 52-year-old showrunner, one of the youngest individual recipients of the award, said in his emotional speech. “So many Gen X kids in the 70s and 80s, the one color TV our family could afford was on around the clock in our house, and I watched and loved all of it.”
Berlanti used that childhood experience as inspiration for his company Berlanti Production’s logo.
“There wasn’t a lot of gay characters on television back then, and I was a closeted gay kid, and it’s hard to describe how lonely that was at the time,” Berlanti continued. “There was no Internet to connect with other queer kids,...

The Big Bang Theory was a combination of many things. It had laughter-filled moments as well as several emotional scenes. The show heavily focused on the friendship of four nerdy but genius individuals. And, it also never failed to capture their unique ability to tune out of the world once they locked into a project.

Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to 1970s espionage thriller Ponies, starring and executive produced by Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones). The project, co-created, co-written and executive produced by Susanna Fogel (The Flight Attendant) and David Iserson (Mr. Robot) and exec produced by Jessica Rhoades (Black Mirror), previously had a cast-contingent blinking green light, which Clarke’s casting turned into a firm order.
Set in Moscow in 1977, the series follows two “Ponies” (“persons of no interest” in intelligence speak) who work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. That is until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the Ussr, and the pair become CIA operatives. Bea (Clarke) is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her cohort, Twila, is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.

The news that Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino was planning to direct a Star Trek movie received an overwhelmingly positive response from Trekkies. Star Trek 4 had completely stalled and his R-Rated take on the franchise was bound to be unlike anything we'd seen before.
The project never came to fruition, with Paramount Pictures now focusing on a new prequel movie with Andor filmmaker Toby Haynes attached to direct from a screenplay by Dark Shadows writer Seth Grahame-Smith.
The studio reportedly intends to still make the "final chapter" of the Chris Pine-led era of Star Trek movies, with Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) attached to write a new draft of that screenplay. As for Tarantino's scrapped plans, it all goes back to his desire to make 10, and only 10, movies as a filmmaker.
"It's never going to happen," he tells Bill Maher in the video below (via SFFGazette.

Greg Berlanti will receive the 2024 Governors Award, the Television Academy announced on Thursday. The award, which he will take home at the 76th Emmy Awards on Sept. 15, is in recognition of his contributions to television since he got his start as a staff writer on “Dawson’s Creek” in 1998.
Among the 45 TV series that Berlanti has since created, written or exec-produced (or some combination of all three) are “Brothers and Sisters,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Arrow,” “Blindspot,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Everwood,” “You,” “Titans,” “Riverdale,” “Doom Patrol,” “All American” and “Found.” His work often centers members of the LGBTQ+ community. “Dawson’s Creek” featured the first same-sex kiss between two men on American network television, for instance, and his fall NBC series “Brilliant Minds” has the first single gay lead in an American medical drama.

Television on a new TV series called The Grays, which ComicBook.com hears will be “a contemporary take on the Oscar Wilde classic about our fascination with eternal youth set against the backdrop of the modern beauty industry.“
The Picture of Dorian Gray has the following description: Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world.

While at the core, The Big Bang Theory revolved around the friendship of five friends and is notable for its exploration of the geek culture, the sitcom also didn’t shy away from tackling romantic grounds. But out of all the major couples in the sitcom, which involved Howard/Bernadette and Sheldon/Amy, it was the bond between Penny and Leonard that blossomed the most.

Okay — at face value, it seems ridiculous to state that a show that ran for 12 seasons and the same number of years ended "abruptly." Still, according to a comprehensive oral history of the hit CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory," some of the show's stars were shocked when they learned the show was finally coming to an end ... and it caused a pretty big rift between Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco.
It's now well-known that the show only did end after 12 seasons because Parsons wanted to leave Sheldon Cooper and his various neuroses behind, and Jessica Radloff's book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series" details how Cuoco was pretty pissed when she discovered that her job was coming to an end. Steve Holland, one of the show's executive producers, even told Radloff that "Kaley could barely make eye contact with Jim during...

They came from all over L.A. on Monday night to spend a languid, balmy August evening on the roof of the iconic One Culver building in the heart of Culver City. The event honored Emmy nominees in numerous crafts categories at Apple TV+’s Summer Soiree FYC party, where some 300 people gathered to talk about the forthcoming awards and chow down on a gourmet buffet. In the main, they were there to take a bow themselves or rise in applause for hairstylists, make-up artists, composers, sound editors and mixers, production designers, set decorators, main title designers, costume designers and casting directors who had earned 2024 nominations for the Apple original series “The Morning Show,” “Palm Royale” and “Masters of the Air.”

Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.
