And there is barely any Justice League in it. Honestly if they had left the resurrection of Superman for its own movie it would have worked a lot better. Here the opposite is true, combining both the death and return into one long movie works a lot better.
I honestly can't imagine the Death part working on its own, barely anything happens before the end besides drama that we have already seen the conclusion to a hundred times, and the second part on its own would surely be far too convoluted. So we'll done to DC for making this narrative into one part. It just makes sense.
Overall this arc is a complete film, although they probably could have shaved down some of the conversations, especially with Lois Lane, who seems to be there to pad out both separate movies, but most of her stuff doesn't need to be here when combined. Good story, drags a bit.

Not the best DC animated movie but it's entertaining that's for sure. Great action and good enough story line. However the use of the justice League was woeful and there wasn't much character depth. But at least for once Lois Lane is actually interesting!

Same as with Death of Superman this isn't one to remember. They are not bad like Batman and Harley Quinn, but they are a step back from the quality DC has us used to. I would not recommend this movie or it's predecessor to anyone that isn't a fanboy and I will probably not remember them after a while.
I am a huge DC fan but I prefer to watch Young Justice over this. It is boring and we know everything that is going to happen. Darkseid is not scary AT ALL. They destroyed his character. The writing is lazy...
Do yourself a favour and watch Young Justice instead.

I was really impressed by this. I really enjoyed it. Why can't they get the people who storyboard these films to story board the live action movies?
I came with high expectations from the Death of Superman, feeling an extra bit of disappointment.
So many character not fleshed out.
Justice League are just prop in this film, might just take them out entirely.

I've been waiting for this since The Death of Superman, but this is not that l excited about. It has so many pointless jokes which kill the serious story. l mean every scene except fighting has a joke tagged along. There were moments that l thought l was watching Marvel movie. There are too much humor in it!
And the movie wasn't even delivered good boss fight, the final boss had a poor unrealistic motivation.
But it is still enjoyable to watch.

I was a huge fan of the original storyline when it was printed in comics and was wondering how they were going to fit all the storylines into a 1.5 hour movie. They did a decent job of streamlining everything by changing around some key elements. Part of me wishes they had stuck to the original story, but part of me is glad they did something different to keep it fresh. The story is still fairly engaging and there were a couple twists I wasn't expecting. The voice acting is pretty good (besides John Henry's voice should have had a bit more bass to it imo since in the comics they described him as having more of a James Earl Jones type of voice) and the animation is above average, with spots of low effort in certain scenes.
Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan of the DC universe.

I enjoyed Death of Superman. It was well done, the villain was something to be feared (unlike this one), there was weight to what happened and it even had emotional moments.
This movie was a mess. Too many elements being thrown in, motivations that don't make sense, plot twists/reveals that don't make sense, plot holes regarding the existence of the replacement Supermen (if they're around why do we need the original? Just make more of them), too many instances where the good guys should have lost, and basically treats the audience like it's dumb. I could go on but I won't.
It wasn't terrible, but not good either. Do yourself a favour and watch Doomsday instead. That one was done better and wasn't half baked. This one felt like they ran out of creativity after the first and were forced to keep the story going, so they came up with a bunch of ideas that weren't well thought out.

I remember the whole "Death of Superman" thing back in the 90's. They introduced four new possible Supermen under four different titles like "The Man of Steel" and "The Last Son of Krypton". All of which continue to this day in one form or another but none of them call themselves Superman anymore. So it's a given that DC would put out a video of this although I would have expected it to come shortly after the actual cartoon they made of the whole affair years ago.
Of course, like anything, this takes liberties with the story. For example Superboy was made by Lex Luthor instead of Cadmus and seems to be able to fly, something he couldn't do in the comics. But I get it. It's an adaptation and not meant to be the same story.
This movie involves the other members of the Justice League who obviously play a larger role in the whole thing. And on the whole it's okay. It's not a great story. It feels a little disjointed at times trying to cram all of the Supermen to one degree or another. The animation is good as is the voice acting. But in the end it just feels a little hollow. It's missing heart or something that makes us want to cheer for these characters.
Not the worst thing that DC has put out but it's definitely not their best work.

With Superman gone, four new Supermen show up to take his place. The most intriguing aspect of this movie is the mystery behind the Supermen. Who are they and where did they come from? Each one has a different origin story. It's hard to imagine the follow up to The Death of Supermen being as good as that movie. And this one was indeed not as good, though still a really solid entry in this New 52 line of DC animated movies. The emotional impact of Superman's return did not pack the same punch as his death. It didn't get quite as much build up. Superboy is a fun addition to this DC universe. I give 7.5, right between good and great.

The story from the comics and the novelation of the Reign of the Supermen was far superior. I had some problems with some of the elements. I was a little disappointed. I would wait until this is available on one of the streaming services you already subscribe and not pay the extra 19.99 I don't think it is worth it.

Except for the latter half of the previous film which was fantastic and the best part of this story, I general this is a much better written and engaging film. The death of superman was very mediocre until the fights with Doomsday (which were amazing), but this is engaging and intriguing all the way through.
With some great action scenes as well showing the immense power these new supermen have. I do wish there was more time to flesh out the story as events and characters are thrown at you in rapid fire succession.
But while the original comics did spend time building the story, this isn't a convoluted mess of editorial gimmicks like that. It continues the story and gives a lot of autonomy to the axillary characters of the superman lore.
The reason it's just a 6 is that it's nothing special. A bit later and I don't remember much from it.

The rela action justice league writer should learn something from animated movie writers. Great work with the reign of the supermen 👍🏻

When it comes to comic books I've always been a Marvel guy, but when it came to the best story arcs DC took the top two. Batman: Knightfall and the Death of Superman/World Without Superman/Return Of Superman set.
Based on this as you can imagine I was excited about possible adaptations, yet at the same time very hesitant and concerned they wouldn't be able to do them justice.
Superman: Doomsday (2007) was a mess, totally missed the point of the original story so when The Death of Superman (2018) was announced I assumed it would be the same. It wasn't, but it was still a very compacted loose adaptation that simply wasn't up to standard. Reign of the Superman? It's going to be awful I assumed, and yeah it kind of is.
As a take your brain out forget the comic book it would still be pretty mediocre but taking into consideration it's source material it's an absolute slap in the face to the fans. This isn't the Return of Superman story line, they've added characters who simply weren't there, they've changed peoples motivations, basically 90%+ is all original stuff that has nothing to do with the comic.
Fine, you couldn't possibly do a story of that size in a 90 minute movie but they didn't have to change it so dramatically! Could they not simply have condensed it?
It's just a Saturday morning cartoon effort that loosely touches upon the original story but quite frankly makes a mockery of it.
Stupid, bad, dumb *Shakes fist*
The Good:
Nice to see a couple of the characters up on screen
Mostly good voice cast
The Bad:
Has almost nothing to do with the original material
