The image of the bloodied reclining chair with long fangs which appears on posters and disc box art does not actually appear in a scene in the movie.
Only one recliner comfy chair was used for filming. There were no multiples or back-ups.
The movie was originally titled "My Lover, My Lazy Boy" but the production feared being sued by the La-Z-Boy furniture company. After this, the Stephen Kingesque title ''The Furnishing'' was then considered, until finally some one came up with the ''Killer Sofa'' title which stuck.
The cost of the chair was only $100 in New Zealand dollars or around US $64 in American currency.
An unshot scene not filmed so as to protect the one reclining seat the production had, featured the sofa jumping from a window and crushing a person on a car. Another had the sofa vomiting blood like in 'The Exorcist' (1973) but this scene was not shot so as to protect the suede on the recliner.
