Kinda stupid funny. Nothing that really made me bust out laughing. The ending was incredibly dark and unexpected. It was okay.
I stumbled upon the 2018 comedy "I Love My Mum" here in 2022, without ever having heard about the movie. So I didn't know what I was in for here, as I sat down to watch what writer and director Alberto Sciamma had to offer.
However, I must say that I liked the synopsis, because it sounded like a fun movie. And of course, with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to watch it.
Sure, "I Love My Mum" was watchable, but it wasn't as funny as I had hoped it was, based on the synopsis. It seemed that the storyline was somewhat scarce on the amount of funny situations and comedy, which the synopsis otherwise seemed to present.
The acting in the movie was good, with leading actress Kierston Wareing and leading actor Tommy French carrying the movie quite well. It was definitely a nice treat to see Dominique Pinon in the movie as well.
"I Love My Mum" wasn't as funny as I had hoped, so this is hardly a comedy that I would recommend for fans of the comedy genre. Nor is it a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.
It should be noted, though, that the ending of the movie was quite a surprise twist of events.
My rating of "I Love My Mum" lands on a four out of ten stars.

Saw this film on a Showfilmfirst promotion so it was free. I feel they should have paid me to watch it!
Awful plot, ridiculous situations, weak and incoherent script and, if they were meant to be, jokes. No engagement with the two main characters, couldn't care less what happened to them and how they manage to get back home is farcical (as is how they got so far away from home in the first place).
Cannot understand how it gets such a high score, pretty much always agree with IMDB ratings but this is way off the mark.

Went to see this film last night and I am totally shocked to see every review on here is 8,9 or 10 stars.
The movie is very unremarkable and forgettable, the plot didn't add up in a few places and there were quite a few things included in the movie that didn't add anything to the story line whatsoever.
Although, it is light-hearted and there are a few funny parts.
Kierston Wareing's character of the washed up party animal mum desperately trying to keep her son by her side to cope with her abandonment issues was the highlight for me. Although Tommy French plays the part of the exhausted son, embarrassed by his mum's flirting very well. The duo's acting almost redeemed the far-fetched plot.

This has to be the dumbest movie I have ever seen. The movie plays out like it was written by a drunk monkey. Most of my friends walked out. Couldn't even finish this pile of garbage.
I should have just slammed my fingers in the car door because that would have had so much more fun than this horrible disaster. The plot was completely stupid and full of holes. The acting was embarrassing and the writing is so bad that I have no words to describe it.
Don't waste your time with this abortion of an Indie film.

Lots of creativity in the writing. An interesting journey physically and in human nature too, and really great partnership between the principle characters.. I loved this road trip movie and suggest you go see it..!

Great idea for a movie but ended up all over the place. The soundtrack was awful & completely random, the acting was same (although not the worst part of the movie). Basically a really poorly executed plot. The high ratings are definitely fake, it's not even good ironically

Yikes, I will never again complain about my mum after watching 'I Love My Mum' by Alberto Sciamma. Hilarious, unpredictable, chaos personified = Olga. Very well played by Kierston Wareing. Gorgeous cinematography & locations which gave me the travel bug. Poor Ron: the swelling music as he has his moment & Olga runs behind completely cracked me up 🤣.
Great work cast and crew!

Abysmally dire unfunny film. Crap chemistry, crap script. Poor direction. Bizarre soundtrack. They say piracy is killing movies, well this one will be no loss.

I loved this movie! It's got great acting, slick writing, and a wealth of beautiful locations which aren't wasted. Add to that some very well chosen, and well used music and you have a really fun, slightly silly and very entertaining film. The road movie feel is hugely enjoyable, as the protagonist mother and son duo attempt to make their way back from an accidental arrival in Morocco to the safety of the UK. Whilst the tone is completely light and wacky, scratch the surface and the themes of belonging, family and striving to find your place in the world are easily accessible if you want them. A great night out!

Such an outrageous plot wouldn't be believable was it not for the two lead actors. Their natural chemistry, made every seemingly unreal occurrence totally authentic! Every seat filled, and everybody laughing out loud. Tommy/Ron was exceptional. This little film is a gem 👌🏻

Prepare yourself Film Fans, for what could be the best British road trip comedy you will have seen in a long time. A bold statement I know however this Low budget Brit comedy punches way above its weight in almost every aspect and lands an absolute knockout for its viewers.
Often movies like this can just seem like a series of randomly put together scenarios and yes this movie could easily run the risk of being overly silly but I felt like through some spot-on casting, a great script and masterful directing on the part of Alberto Sciamma this movie expertly avoids becoming one of those movies.
Tommy French as Ron is somewhat of a revelation, I will hold my hands up and say that I personally don't think I have seen this actor before and didn't really expect too much but boy did he impress me, the comedic delivery of a lot of his dialogue is superb and I found him completely believable as a sort of fish out of water put upon son who has just about had enough but would still do just about anything for his mum... Including an epic Karaoke jam. Of course French does have a superb Co-star to bounce off in Kierston Wareing who just nails this role, absolutely nails it. At first I was a little put off by the character but 8-10 minutes into the movie I fell in love with Olga and that love only grew. French and Wareing are a match made in heaven.

Brilliant pacy comedy, I can see this becoming a classic. What really amazed me the most was that a Spanish director living in London 3 years could write and direct a film so British in its humour.
Well done fella!

Popped in to cinema tonight and watched one of the funniest films I have seen in years.put this film to the top of your list great cast in a great film well done
This is a lot of fun! It doesn't promise to making biting statements about modern society or try and change our perception of the world. What is does, is provide.90 odd minutes of entertainment, and who could ask for more than that. It's silly, it's painful and the chemistry between Ron & his mum is brilliantly written and delivered. Well produced, with some lovely filming, there are a lot worse ways to spend 90 minutes. A cult favourite in the making.

After a crazy start the movie keeps on going from gag to gag in a fun and even touching manner. Being Spanish I could recognise the characters well, and even if they are stereotypes they ring true. A nice flick to forget the world for a few minutes

This is a very funny and enjoyable film that had me laughing from start to finish with plenty of surprises from start to finish. The performances from the two leads are excellent, and I thought newcomer Tommy French was particulary brilliant. I first saw this film at the European Independent Film Festival in Paris and then again at a special screening in London during the opening weekend. I'm sure it will go on to delight audiences worldwide!

2 months to create the first script draught, 3 years in the making, £3.5m budget. Well written and directed by
Alberto Sciamma and what a nice guy too. Filmed on several locations with various different endings written and filmed. Surprised by the ending but as explained by the director and without giving away the absolute ending, it has been very much left as an "is she?" or isn't "she?". This is not normally my kind of film but I was pleased I went to the screening and was a part of the Q and A at the end. I would absolutely recommend going to view this film, no matter what your preference of genre. Five stars for the whole experience. Well done Alberto and Crew!! *****
