Not a bad little film, if you're looking for a bit of 1982 nostalgia. Several reviewers have said this movie doesn't feel like the '80s, but they're wrong. The '70s didn't end at the stroke of midnight, 1980. We didn't immediately get rid of our '70s cars and start driving those tiny BMWs, wearing Ocean Pacific, and sporting Vans. Those things took time to catch on, and while they certainly became part of what people think of as "the Eighties," they weren't exactly ubiquitous in '82. It took a few years for the polyester to go away, and this film captures the moment. It all looked familiar to me. Nicely done.
Overall this movie was not terrible. It was definitely cheesy and bad acting at times but it has a fun aesthetic to it. However 80s Long Island or New Jersey has been done better in so many more shows and movies. If you like this aesthetic but want better plot lines and romance go watch the following: Red Oaks (tv series on prime), Staten Island Summer (movie), and also Hot Summer Nights (movie). All of these do what this movie tried to do and do it way better.
Seen many last summer before college flicks this ranks in the middle somewhere .
Lots of relationship drama and beautiful young people drinking and having sex the last summer before they head off to college . Nothing new here but refreshing escape from marvel bs .

David here I been a movie buff for over fifty years and I felt the movie was weak 😮
There was some good music and cars in it
For it being there last summer together you wanted them to do more. It felt very low budget to me. It is no American Graffiti that's for sure!
I am sure they worked hard on it, but it did not come across that way in the movie. Fun to see for the cars and some of the music. Better luck next time. See you at the movies 🍿 It was funny to see the wall phone move when a person was making a call. 😂 The song about Winky was strange, The words were good, but the singing was not the best.

Miss the sun? Then check out indie writer / director king Edward Burns' 2018 80s-based autobiopic "Summer Days Summer Nights". One Long Beach summer sensitive teen Pico Alexander works for his single dad (Burns) at the beach while navigating heartache, new love (Lindsey Morgan), plans for the future, etc... as do others like Caitlin Stasey, Rita Volk (great), Carly Brooke & Anthony Ramos. While far too light & melodramatic to match the likes of "Do The Right Thing", "The Tender Bar", "The Way Way Back" or "The Fabelmans", it still has nostalgic sun, sea, sand, sex, beers, blue skies, cool cars, hot-bods in swim-suits, and a fine (if obvious) soundtrack.

Ed burns movies are not about action they are about the characters. Go watch she's the one.
It was passable and despite other reviewers the soundtrack was quintessential early 80's pop, however there were a few glaring errors. The movie takes place in 1982, Duran Duran hungry like the wolf didn't exist yet nor did the phrase hook up or home slice to name a few. We should have heard the cars and reo speed wagon and foreigner and blondie and the pretenders Mr burns perhaps has forgotten 1982 but the viewers haven't. It felt more like an 80's themed party from 2001
The actors did miss the mark a little with connecting with the era but overall was enjoyable. Burns is a storyteller if you're looking for sex and action and explosions this isnt for you. If you want to be entertained and forget for 90 min it's a good choice.

The song the dude sings for the girl that he wrote the night before is absolutely terrible. Whom ever actually wrote it should not have access to music and recording equipment.

I have been waiting for over a year to see this movie & it has not made an appearance in any theaters nearby or been released online or on DVD. Surely one of the many online networks should be interested in this. Please get it out there soon!
This is a fun, nostalgic look at the 1980's on Long Island. There is a strong, young cast in this movie about the summer before a young crew goes off to college. Ed Burns does a great job writing, directing and costarring in this light summer, romantic comedy. The look and feel and are music are authentic. While it is predictable it is still worth seeing.

This movie was 100% predictable. The acting was okay for a bunch of unknowns. I stopped 3 different times and left the room because it was so boring, but I made myself finish it. The music was the only god thing about the movie, but the song they played at the end while the credits rolled I had never heard or heard of ~ and I graduated in '83 so I knew all the music to this movie. Don't waste your time.
Eddie Burns is such a talent and the actors in this movie were cast just right. This movie will take you back to the days of teen angst and mid-twenties yearning for high school. I wish every kid going off to college would watch this with their parents before hastily deciding on a major that isn't a good fit and to rethink their passions. Great flick, great cast, great writing, and great storytelling.

The movie was enjoyable enough, however, my main issue with the movie was the actor Pico playing JJ. The whole movie I kept thinking he was channeling Grant Gustin (The Flash).
Everything is wrong with the time period, or what's supposed to be the time period of this movie. You can't just pump in 80s music and drive old cars to make your audience believe it. It appears that they put so little effort into making an accurate 80s style movie that it makes it a distraction to watch.

After spending 3 days, on and off, watching this thing, my opinion is that this movie was a total waste of good film stock. So many things wrong with this pic; actors in their 30's trying to portray teens, bad make-up jobs, scenes that went in and out of focus. The writers had no clue as to where this story was supposed to go and couldn't seem to remember how real teens talked and acted. I can only assume that this movie went straight to video and was intended for some kids to put on while they made out on the couch.

I saw this movie a few years ago at the tribeca film festival and have checked every few months to see if it was streamable yet.
This is not a super serious Oscar winning movie but it's very enjoyable. It's picturesque in a nostalgic way. The writing is pretty good and I think the acting is decent. It's not too dramatic but does tug on the heartstrings. Reminds me of movies from the '90s and the early 2000s because it's comforting yet has just enough edge. Just a good old coming of age story.
The only thing I'm bummed about is that I believe it's original title was "summertime" which was a lot catchier for a movie title than "summer days, summer nights".

First of all, i wouldn't cast Carly Brooke anymore. She breaks camera all the time. Possibly too much Instagram. Secondly mostly everybodys hair and makeup is all wrong and people behave unauthentic all of the time. The 80s have a very easy to grasp and strict set of rules. Camerawork is terrible to say the least. Script is leading nowhere, like streetside stream. People don't relate and don't connect, emotional arc is sub-par. This movie has like one good, but useless actor and a few potentially nice shots that were just wasted. Props look like stuff from a scrapyard. Actors have no idea how to handle them, producers have no idea how to feature them. Choice of music screams "we had no budget". This movie should not have been made and you should not watch it. It is boring, adds nothing to the 80s legacy and leads nowhere. 1 of 10. Please don't try again.
The best part about this movie is the blue firebird. I'm not even kidding. The acting was mediocre at best and the storyline...well there wasn't one. There wasn't one memorable scene, one-liner, or anything to take away from this movie. I'm nostalgic for the 80's so I really wanted to like this movie but it's just not good.
No plot, no violence, no nudity, no conflict, no tension, no suspense, no action, no climax, no resolution. Just people going about their day. Such an empty film. Just so incredibly boring. Nothing at all happens in the film.
The soundtrack was decent though.

Acting was terrible. Made old episodes of "Saved by the bell" look like high art.

Not great acting and why does Frankie act like he didn't know Suzy was home when he clearly saw and spoke to her the day before. How could this be missed?
Boring movie. It's not funny and it's not compelling. I didn't laugh once. And the only 80s thing about it is the music and cars. Nobody looks or talks like they're in the 80s. No issues or references that make you think it's the 80s. It's like someone wrote a boring script and they told them it had to be set in the 80s to get funding and they added music and cars and used their current script without any changes.
Dazed and Confused is 100X better. Kicking The Dog is 20x better even though it's low budget, but at least it's hysterical. The Stoned Age is also a period piece that has almost no actual references to the 80s, but at least it has some really funny moments.

This movie is exactly what it says to be. There are hot bodied, slim, white, young people all the time on the screen, all the time. And it's summer, so that's a good excuse for them to be practically naked. Aand it's 80s, so nips. Nothing mentionable happens in the movie. All characters are one dimensional. So, it's total eye candy. As a pansexual, I could do anyone in the movie, anyone, including Ed Burns, especially Ed burns. Worth it!
Now, IMDb is still asking for 159 more characters. Do I want anything more to say? No. Do I have anything more to say? Yeah, why not. Take this filler and fulfill the required character limit of 600 characters.
