Nicole Kidman may stay booked and busy, but that doesn’t mean things are all that easy for her. In today’s difficult entertainment industry landscape, she’s had as much trouble as any getting projects sold, let alone actually made.
“Everything’s hard now. Actually everything. I mean, maybe not ‘Deadpool,’ but there’s nothing that’s, ‘Oh my gosh. Yep. This is it. Greenlight, let’s go.’ Or maybe it’s just the things that I do,” Kidman said in a recent interview for Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue. “I just think that’s the nature of what we’re dealing with now. Things are shrinking in terms of shows being done and films being made. I definitely feel it. I’m sure most people in the industry feel it. I know the crews feel it. I know writers feel it.”

“Joker” was a very New York movie — so much so that tourists flocked to the Bronx staircase where Joaquin Phoenix danced in a montage.
But the sequel, “Joker: Folie á Deux,” will shoot in Los Angeles, thanks to 12.6 million in tax credits to Warner Bros. from the state of California.
The California Film Commission announced its latest round of credit allocations on Monday morning, awarding 93.7 million to 18 projects. The recipients include an untitled indie film from Sofia Coppola and Amazon’s MGM, which will get 19.6 million to make the latest iteration of “The Thomas Crown Affair.”
Netflix — which has dominated recent rounds — once again took the lion’s share of the funding, with 37.1 million — or 40 of the total.
The streamer got 16.6 million for “Rebel Moon: Part 2,” just a year after getting 18.5 million in California tax credits to make the first “Rebel Moon,” a space epic from Zack Snyder. The two...

Brand New Cherry Flavor is a subversive new limited series premiering on Netflix on August 13.
We got the chance to chat with creators Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion about adapting the novel by Todd Grimson to TV.
"The backstory is in like 2007 or 2008. I read the novel because I had become like email pen pals with Ty Grimson, and I've never met him in real life," Antosca shared.
"We talked by email and phone, and I didn't even know that he was a novelist. I just knew he had some short stories online. He sent me the book. I was blown away by it. I became really fascinated by this kind of complex amoral yet relatable protagonists with this really intense creative drive," he added.
"I carried the book with me and always remembered it, and then when I got into TV years later and got to know Lenore, I...

Producer Effie Brown detailed the “huge” industry backlash she faced five years removed from her on-screen argument about diversity with Matt Damon on the series “Project Greenlight.”
In a column published in THR, Brown, who is now CEO of Gamechanger Films and is the chair of the Inclusion Advisory committee for the Academy Museum, said that she did not work for some time and was seen as difficult by her peers.
“After I did ‘Project Greenlight’ — and this is no secret — I suffered a huge backlash. I didn’t work for a while,” Brown said. “People didn’t want to work with me because I spoke truth to power. People who speak up are usually marginalized and pushed back, called difficult, confrontational, you name it. I spoke up and got summarily smacked back down. I did not get embraced with open arms, nor did it work in my favor … at first.

“This is a total step up,” Ryan Tedder says of the impending return of “Songland” on NBC April 13. “It’s like ‘The Office’ Season 2 versus ‘The Office’ Season 1. You figure out what you’re doing. You figure out what the characters are.”
And success had bred confidence. “The panel came back in like they were (coming) off a hit record,” says executive producer Dave Stewart, of Eurythmics fame.
Between “American Idol,” “The Voice” and even “The Masked Singer,” audiences haven’t been starved of options to watch unknown singers reveal their talents to the world. “Songland” instead seeks to illuminate the creative process behind songwriting, inviting creators to present original works and workshop them for famous musical artists serving as guest judges.
The show has been a surprising success, even by the key participants’ expectations. It was the No. 1 series last summer 18-49 in the alternative (reality/non-scripted) category, reaching...

This Black Lightning review contains major spoilers.
Black Lightning is a show that doesn’t concern itself with being chill. It has zero chill and never tries to give the impression that it ever has or ever wants to have chill. It doesn’t go from zero to 100 because that implies it even has a zero, which it does not. This show stays on the accelerator, and it might let up a little, but it has never heard of a brake, it’s full throttle till the gas is exhausted…
The Season 3 finale starts at 100: After saving Jennifer (following her foolhardy attempt to take on Gravedigger solo), Jefferson charges up and takes Gravedigger on himself. What follows is one of many superpowered, supercharged showdowns between Gravedigger with his array of borrowed powers and various members of Black Lightning’s meta team.
Elsewhere, throughout Freeland, Markovians are snatching metas, destroying police and fire stations,...

Greenlight is an indie horror film from the Horror Collective. Centrally focused on Jack (Chase Williamson), this filmmaker will do whatever it takes to make a film. But, some of the cast and crew on Jack's next production might have taken their roles a little too far. This feature has won an Audience Award for "Best Suspense Film" at the Another Hole in the Head Film Festival. Now, Greenlight is getting set to leave the film festivals behind in favour of the Digital marketplace. From director Graham Denman, Greenlight also stars: Shane Coffey (Starry Eyes), Caroline Williams (Tales of Halloween), Nicole Alexandra Shipley and Evanne Friedmann. The film's release date is scheduled for the end of the month. Greenlight is the filmmaking term in which a film is given the go-ahead - for production. Usually a script is greenlit by studios or production companies, with the studio head giving the final thumbs up.

Exclusive: Producer Shaked Berenson has teamed with former Dread Central Editor-in-Chief, Jonathan Barkan to launch the new genre distribution label The Horror Collective. The banner will be under Berenson’s production/distribution outfit Entertainment Squad and Barkan will head the venture which plans to release 10-12 films per year.
Like the name of the distribution label suggests, The Horror Collective is building itself to become a destination that fosters independent horror filmmakers and connect their films to fans. It will also finance and produce original content. The outfit’s inaugural film will be Elza Kephart’s Slaxx, which was the first project financed Entertainment Squad and will be released by The Horror Collective and enter the festival circuit in Q1 2020. Berenson financed and executive produced the Slaxx with long collaborator, Anne-Marie Gélinas of Ema Films.
